Brannon Howse: August 20
Topic One: Fannie and Freddie Mac leaders get big salaries despite loosing money and putting us on the hook for possibly billions and even trillions in potential loses. Topic two: Michael Reagan on how President Bush took his eye off of Russia. Topic Three: Pop goes the church? Should the church be looking to hook into pop culture to attract new members? Should the church use movies, TV and the music of the culture as the basis for sermons? Should pastors take a survey of a town and then give the people a church that will meet their "needs"? Brannon gives humorous but deadly serious answers to these questions.

lt is happenining in Oklahoma!

Hello Brannon, for several years now we have had a church here called the Church That Rocks and Lifechurch. They are both exact examples of what you spoke about. Every now and then l receive a invitation card from the church that rocks saying we do not believe in services that remind you of being at a funeral and you can come as you are. We are all messed up in some way or another and we except that in one another and we like to rock for the Lord. l have a friend who had been attending there 4 years at the time and said "we rock and roll at my church" and then in the next breath started talking about certain sexual pleasures the women at his church would not yield to.l was shocked! l thought what kind of message is his pastor giving each Sunday. After 4 years of attending he does not know proper Christian behavior or the first thing about being a Christian. l passed the lifechurch the other day which is televised from one location and linked to several other locations and the founding pastor preaches on a big screen. He said on local tv one Sunday morning before he got his links all in to his church worship centers around the city and in Tulsa that he hates conventional church and when l passed the other day after my church there was folks going in for what l call the next showing in shorts and flip flops and some all wrinkled up. l dress up out of my respect for my Lord and as a preparation for worship. WE really need to pray for this movement.Jesus said right out "if you love the world you do not love me". They turn down the lights and have a rock show kind of praise at several churches here now with flashing lights and the works!

Catering to the world.

No where in scripture are we to cater to this sinful world to put people in the seats of the local church. We are admonished to do the opposite. This is why most supposed Christians have these beliefs, between the emergent false gospel, and the purpose driven drivel there are very few churches left that preach the Gospel of the risen Christ. It was written this would happen before the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is just so sad and frustrating to see. I spent way too much time in a Rick Warren centered church, and was constantly miserable. There is no discernment in these buildings among the members, as a matter of fact they are told that's devisive. No contending for the faith, a faith that they cannot defend or describe. Personal attacks and bullying is the order of the day. This is more of a cult than any kind of church of Christ. Whatever the pastor mimics from Mr. Warren is equal to the Word of God. I was told that flat out. Sad and pathetic.

Are you getting your information on Granger Community Church from a written article? If so, can this information be obtained somewhere? I think this is devastating and really shows the futility of pandering to unbelievers and the culture and what it does to a church. I think the same thing is happening to every church using these methods. The apostacy is here but there is hope - the Lord's return has to be very, very close.

Brannon, you have a gem here. You should really make a written transcript of your critique of Pop Goes the Church. I have never heard anything better or more relevant. If you do put this in writing, please publish it where I can get a copy!!

pop goes the church

This is the church (Granger Community Church) that, after doing the 'Reveal now' survey found that 47% of responders do not believe in salvation by grace; 57% do not believe in the authority of the Bible; 41% don't believe that God is actively involved in the daily affairs of people and the rest of creation; 56% don't believe that Jesus is the only way to eternal life; 71% don't believe that a Christian should live a sacrificial life-not driven by the pursuit of material things. This is taken directly from the sermon given by the lead pastor (I think the date was Aug 3/08). This is after 22 years of existence and querying the community on what they think their needs are. POOF! goes the church I say. Sad.
