THE WORLD IS SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL

By Jan Markell

www.olivetreeviews.org

I recently saw a newspaper headline stating that, “Everything is spinning out of control.”  The underlying sentiment seemed to be that we should pin the tail on the worst issues going on in the world today. Quite frankly, there may not be enough tails!

Then to add to the distress, The New York Times printed an article, “Are you ready for the next disaster?” All natural disasters in the last 6 to 12 months have been preceded with headlines such as “unprecedented” or “record-setting.”

This may sound depressing but keep reading. It isn’t just gloom and doom.

The points are accurate that prices are skyrocketing and home values are abysmal. Airline costs, college tuition, and health care are becoming unaffordable.

Both U.S. presidential candidates want to add a sense of order to all of this and have their own solutions. No one has the slightest idea if any of their suggestions will make things better or worse and if God is maneuvering the world for His greater purposes, what world leaders do or say matters very little.

We live in an age of risk assessment and risk analysis, when doomsday scenarios have become daily anxieties, and planning for improbable but world-changing events has become a focus of disaster policy. Now with renewed jitters about a post-election terrorist attack, government officials are urging us to plan for the next catastrophe. Nobody said it would be easy to be born for such a time as this!

Maybe what the 21st century is all about is the great unraveling of some things long taken for granted.

The Bible indicates that right before the Lord’s return many things will spin out of control. Most scoff at such suggestions as predicted in II Peter. And it does not help to have church pulpits totally silent on issues that relate to the predicted “end-times” and some of the things that will unfold in those days.

I maintain the unbelieving world cannot connect the dots when it comes to much of this.  They will blame it on man-made global warming, whoever is in the White House, Rush Limbaugh, and a host of other nonsense issues. It is difficult, if not impossible, for the unsaved world to arrive at a satisfactory answer to life’s great mysteries.  While this is not a suggestion that the unsaved world has no hope, they surely do not have the “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13).

So the next time you hear the suggestion that the sky is falling, tell them that, no, the sky will some day open up for the King of kings to appear in the clouds and call forth His church.  Some of the calamities occurring are reminding us that the hour is late and the door of the Ark may close. We have little time to waste.

If you are a part of a church that is sleeping at the wheel, move on. You will likely not hear of the Lord’s glorious returning in 95% of the churches today. It does not encourage church growth they will tell you. Others will say it is divisive or impractical for this generation.

As Dr. David Reagan, one of our “Understanding the Times” conference speakers in 2006, 2007, and 2008 says, “Although prophecy constitutes almost one-third of the Bible, its importance is constantly downplayed by those who dismiss it as having no practical significance or by those who object to it on the grounds that it is a ‘fad’ that takes people's eyes off Jesus.

“Revelation 19:10 says that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.’   Thus, if prophecy is properly taught, there is no reason for it to divert anyone's attention away from Jesus.  In fact, it should serve to emphasize the centrality of Jesus.

“Is prophecy practical?  Consider that all the New Testament writers testify to the fact that the study of prophecy will motivate holy living.  What could be more practical than that?

“Prophecy does not have to be faddish, other-worldly, or impractical if taught properly.  Nor does it have to be a playground for fanatics.  It can and should be green pastures for disciples.

“God's Prophetic Word is food for our spiritual growth.  We need to take it off the shelf.  We need to open it up and feast upon it, and we need to do so with believing hearts.”

As John the Baptist was shall not be as he was too
Posted On: 07/20/08 03:03:38 PM Age 33, OK
For Jesus himself praised him yet Herodias schemed with her daughter to have his head chopped up by a promise from Herod and it happened. I read of a man shown a dream of end times by the Lord. He saw being led into this building and room those that would eat this fruit to be destroyed eternally and those that refused to eat the fruit of the enemy being thrown into a room with something of a light or lightswitch God's power was with them. Some got away some had to face death They were being led to their death and he felt a fear but he remebered the Lords words and prayed and a peace come over him at the time of his death he was like Stephen Lord with him feeling the glory and no pain in his final moment on earth.

EVEN THE BOOK OF ESTHER IS PROPHECY IF WE HAVE EYES TO SEE
Posted On: 07/16/08 05:44:22 PM Age 64, OH
Read the Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey and you should see why there is not more prophecy given. After so much junk such as this put out, many have made fools out of themselves. The reason there is so little prophecy is there are so few prophets. So many can not even get the title of The book of prophecy correct yet alone the meaning of it. They seem to think it is "Revelations" and think it is about future events. The book of The Revelation is not about future events but it is about THE REVELATION of The Lord Jesus Christ which was, and is, and is to come. It is about the past, present, and the future and not about the only the future, but it is about The Lord Jesus Himself. These men who call themselves prophets do not even know what prophecy is. Prophecy is not about the future but prophecy is The Testimony Of The Lord Jesus Christ. The Revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ started when in Genesis 1 "IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH" The heavens declare the glory of God and reveal The Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus said "LET THERE BE LIGHT AND THERE WAS LIGHT" This is prophecy and Jesus reveals to all that He is light and not darkness and when He speaks it takes place so He can not lie. 1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. -- So we know by this that every scripture in The Bible shows us that Jesus Christ came in the flesh or is not from God. The problem is that most do not bother to ask our dear Lord who shed His blood for us, how every scripture shows us that He came in the flesh. Even the Book of Esther shows us that Jesus came in the flesh to save us from our sins, if we would only look. Lou

  1. NOT ONE PERSON
    Posted On: 07/22/08 12:16:10 PMAge 64, OH
My point is proved correct to my sadness. I am amazed that not one person wants to know how and where the book of Esther shows us that God had to leave His throne in Heaven and come to earth and become a Man to sacrifice Himself for us to be able to Trust in Him. Lou

Prophecy must be properly taught
Posted On: 07/16/08 08:14:51 AM Age 61, MO
We need to hear more prophecy, but it must be accurate. "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received the mark upon their foreheads or their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished). This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." (Revelation 20:4-6). Notice that the people who are beheaded for Jesus stand in contrast to those who receive the mark. To be "beheaded for the witness of Jesus" means to have one's own headship cut off, in favor of being ruled by Christ's headship. They are "beheaded" spiritually. The "thousand years" is not a period of time. It is a spiritual condition of reigning and ruling with Christ. Those who surrendered to Christ, both living and dead, are right now in a spiritual relationship depicted by the "thousand years." When people see the Bible book of Revelation in the proper perspective, perhaps they can make a better choice about how they will live. It is not a picture of individuals and their part in future world events. It is a picture of two ways: the beast way, or Jesus as the Way. George Cancilla

  1. spiritual beheading
    Posted On: 07/17/08 02:27:36 PMAge 47, NC
you are wrong in your interpretation from the Book of Revelation on the beheaded witnesses. the beheaded witnesses will be those who are beheaded - PHYSICALLY - during the tribulation. the "spiritual" beheading that you describe is dying to self or submitting completely to Christ - that is NOT what is meant by the beheaded witnesses.

    1. "Beheading"
      Posted On: 07/18/08 12:21:51 PMAge 61, MO
If it were only a physical beheading, then many saints would not be ruling and reigning with Christ, because they were killed in other ways, such as crucifixion, burning at the stake, etc. These verses of prophecy have application for the entire Church Age and all of the Old Testament saints. 2. BEHEADED WITNESSES
      Posted On: 07/18/08 11:01:31 AMAge 64, OH
When Jesus said beware the yeast of the pharisees, was He speaking of bread. Jesus made it very clear that He was not speaking of bread but the teachings of the pharisees. The ways of God are far beyond us and beyond finding out, as it says in Romans 11. Can any man say just how the Lord meant this "beheaded witnesses" unless the Holy Spirit speak to him. But even if the Lord would tell a person that it means one thing, that man can still not say that the Lord ALSO does not mean it another way. It would seem to me that George is correct in his interpretation and you are also correct as far as saying that there will also be people who are physically beheaded. But i think you are wrong to say that George is wrong. Lou
