HAS GOD SENT THIS DELUSION?

HAS GOD SENT THIS DELUSION?
By Jan Markell

I quote my good friend and ministry colleague Jim Hutchens of "The Jerusalem Connection International" when he says, "The veiled anti-Israel action by the Presbyterian Church USA is nothing less than blatant anti-Semitism." I also agree with him. So what is the issue?

As I write truthful but unpleasant comments about the Presbyterian Church, I know many Presbyterian readers of this do not agree with their church leadership.  But at the recent Presbyterian Church USA annual meeting a number of Presbyterian leaders pled passionately for a declaration of solidarity with the Palestinian Arabs.  The appeal included  a recommendation to adopt a series of anti-Israel measures, including proposals for divestment and for backing a suspension of American military aid to the Jewish state.  In essence they called for Presbyterians to side with the Palestinians and take serious shots at the Israelis.

"The situation in Palestine is dire. The call from our Palestinian brothers and sisters has fallen on deaf ears," a Presbyterian minister, Reverend William McGarvey of San Francisco, said. "The American Christian church has largely watched this catastrophe continue as if we did not care."

Some Presbyterian leaders spoke out against the anti-Israel proposals and offered alternatives calling for a "nonpartisan" approach to the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.  But a Palestinian religious leader attending this annual meeting said, "I urge you to get your hands dirty, to take sides."

Six senators who are Presbyterians urged the church not to endorse the proposal to cut off defense help to Israel. "We are adamantly opposed to the call for the U.S. government to temporarily suspend military aid to Israel," Senators Kyl of Arizona, Bond of Missouri, DeMint of South Carolina, Carper of Delaware, Shelby of Alabama, and Inhofe of Oklahoma wrote. "We ask that you take no action that would make a case for moral equivalency between the Israeli military, which is fighting to keep Israel safe, and Palestinian terrorists, who seek to destroy it."

A former American negotiator in the Middle East, Dennis Ross, also warned against taking the Palestinian side in the long-running dispute. "If your church is going to adopt a position that is one-sided in favor of the Palestinians, it takes no account of what the Israelis have done," Mr. Ross said in a videotaped message to delegates. "I find the resolution on divestment from companies doing business with Israel and the others who criticize Israel to be divorced from reality. They don't take into account the price the Israelis have paid or the concessions they made or the many times the Israelis in negotiations have been prepared to go very far and not found responsiveness on the other side."

With these men weighing in with truth, doesn't this all sound just a bit delusional?

So, in a sense, whether any bill passes this year or next, the Presbyterian Church USA has declared war on our only ally in the Middle East. This is what happens when denominations hold to Replacement Theology; that is, that the Church is now Israel.  The Church has replaced Israel in all New Testament references. It remains a mystery to me how they deal with Romans 9 - 11.

But the Presbyterian Church USA and others who think like they do miss the most important point.  It is not Israel making the Palestinians miserable; it is the Palestinian leadership and the United Nations who keep them in bondage so they can be political pawns.

Also, it is difficult to find a more neglected story than the relative satisfaction of Palestinian Arabs living in Israel -- about 20% of the population in Israel -- as revealed by a recent Harvard study. Researchers asked Palestinian Arabs if they would rather live in Israel than any other country in the world. Dream away, folks. You can fantasize that they said they would rather be in Dubai or the U.K. or the U.S. But nearly 80% said they like Israel best. These are Arabs living in Israel who are under Israeli rule, not corrupt Palestinian rule.

Arabs in Israel are not subject to compulsory military service though they may volunteer to serve in the military and some do.  So we have some Arabs living in Israel serving in Israel's military while the Presbyterian Church USA suggests America suspend all military aid to Israel!  Have I fallen into Alice's Wonderland or has the Presbyterian Church USA fallen down the hole? Where's the Mad Hatter?

This issue will not die. Other denominations are following suit and making similar proposals at annual meetings. In the past there have usually been enough in high church leadership to denounce these proposals, but it is my belief that will not always be the case.

Is it any wonder that the church today is in a mess? All Mainline Protestant denominations hold to Replacement Theology. I am not saying all Mainline Protestants hold to the proposals stated above. But Mainline Protestants and Catholics today almost universally adhere to the false teaching that the Church today is the new Israel. A remnant in these categories would disagree with this theology.

The Bible says, "I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spoke, they did not hear: But they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not" (Isa. 66:4).  So it begs the question: Did God send them this delusion because in their hearts they just have serious issues and are blind to the truth about Israel's miraculous rebirth? The Bible indicates that when one remains firm in a lie and rejects the truth, they will become blinded. (2 Thess. 2:11)

The desire to harm a nation that is a friend and ally and a nation that remains God's Chosen People, makes little sense in the natural.

RADIO: Both hours of this past weekend's radio provide provocative commentary. Dr. Michael Coffman explains the hidden agenda behind the man-made global warming myth. The real agenda is global government. Hour two is for anyone discouraged about reaching a loved one with the gospel who refuses to hear or see biblical truth. These are found at "Radio Archives." GOD's chosen people?
Posted On: 07/01/08 11:01:22 PM Age 49, CO
I am sorry but the nation of Israel today is not the nation of old. GOD destroyed that nation and its temple because of the rejection of His Son. Today they still vehemently reject Jesus, I know I have been there and keep up on current events they are deporting Christians. The delusion is to think a Christ hating nation is of GOD! Do they need Jesus, yes, should we love them yes, but should we favor Israel over other people NO! Enough of this GOD's Chosen people are those who Love Him and Love His Son plain and simple. I am tired of this heresy of calling people GOD's Chosen when they clearly as a people and a nation hate his son. Also, are our Palestinian brothers and sisters subhuman that we dont care about them or talk about them or help them! GOD help us when brothers and sisters in the LORD are disregarded to help those who hate our LORD.

  1. Israel replaced?
    Posted On: 07/12/08 04:58:23 PMAge 47, NC
If Israel has been replaced even though their BLOOD COVENANT is FOREVER then we Christians are ALL going straight to hell because i GUARANTEE He will abandon us and has already done so. think i'm kidding? if God will abandon His beloved people - the apple of His eye then we too are abandoned. we are just as if not more so disobedient of His commands. we were grafted into the vine (Israel) and can easily be pruned out of the vine. He came FIRST FOR THE JEW, then the gentile

  2. God's chosen people
    Posted On: 07/09/08 09:09:09 PMAge 71, MD
I am stunned that you are so misinformed and unclear about the relationship with God. Israel is under an everlasting blood covenant with God. It is an unconditional covenant. You need to get into a church that teaches the Bible. You will also come to understand that calling the Palestinians our "brothers and sisters" would only be true if they were, as you called them "in the Lord" You may be surprised to learn that they are not "in the Lord" at all. They are Muslims..They follow the Islamic faith with a totally different God than the God of the Christians, the ones who would truly be "in the Lord". They have a different God. They hate Christians!

  3. Those (Palistainians you feel such empathy for)
    Posted On: 07/05/08 11:29:47 AMAge 33, OK
Are the same ones whom cheered victoriously, paraded and gave out candy burning the U.S flag Sept.11 when thousands of Americans died. They make themselves human bombs to blow up buses, pizzerias, discos, border checks, and shoot young boys yeshivas schools, they throw rocks spit upon religious standing at the wall. They beat up Jewish young people driving through their area of town. They torture soldiers as prisoners ripping them apart and hanging them from windows,They hold soldiers bodies as hostages. They fire rockets daily at the Jewish people. They have summer camps and books to teach their children to hate and kill the Jewish people. They accept huge amounts of money if their sons and daughter become murderers. They are given an enormous amount of money from European,U.S. and Saudia Arabian sources which goes to political leaders pocket books and into more weapons to sneak across and fire at Israel. Yet we are supposed to feel empathy and sorry for them. As for the Jewish people God will remember them still for his Holyname sake. For God covenanted them with them he will not forsake Zion. The false one they put their trust in will be revealed he will break covenant with her he will turn against her. The adulterous woman God will have mercy upon, the blindness will be lifted. Israel will mourn for the Lord Jesus and cry out for him each family and household like mourning for their only son. They will cry out in that day. As Josephs brothers finally saw Joseph whom they sold and cried out for mercy they will cry out for mercy to their Messiah. And Jesus will HEAR. The Lion of JUDAH will ROAR and DEFEND her. He will come down upon the Mt. of Olives with his feet FEAST of the TRUMPETS archangel blowing their KING will return, To judge the nations to tabernacle with his people, the False one they looked too will be punished,Rivers of Righteousness will finally flow. We've been grafted into the olive tree Israel we should not be proud over her or we'll be cut off, in his mercy we are saved too. Praise his name forever and forever. Amen and Amen.

Woh unto those that call evil good
Posted On: 07/01/08 05:36:58 PM Age 33, OK
and good evil. Men who would side themselves with people that strap bombs unto themselves to blow G-d's chosen people up. That fire rockets unto a land where his name dwells. I guess these ministers want to be with the goats when the Lord seperates the sheep and the goats those on his left and those on his right.

He gave them quail, He shakes the earth, He is Lord!
Posted On: 07/01/08 03:16:12 PM Age 59, VA
Did He send it? He has said He would send a deception in the last days so strong that if possible it would be convincing enough to deceive even the elect. On the other hand we are responcible for what we believe. He has given every believer fair warning. If someone reads and studies their bible there will be no doubt in their mind that believers should support Isreal in all their endeavors. This is a case of people truely ignoring the Word of God for whatever reasons. We have been given His Word and it is clear, those that bless Isreal will be blessed and those that curse Isreal will be cursed! Many who call themselves Christians are fallllinnnnggg away! The virgins who have no oil are beginning to show themselves clueless!

Who should we support?
Posted On: 07/01/08 11:17:18 AM Age 53, IA
The ones we need to support in the whole Israel situation is not the Arabs or the Jews but the church that is made up of Jewish and Palestinian Christians. They are the ones who suffer most in this conflict. And are the ones most forgotten. Christ came to redeem a people, the church. The church is made up of all peoples, of all cultures. The gentiles grafted in with the Jews to be one in Christ. The Israelies and the muslum arabs are the lost. The Christians are those who are God's chosen people. The church did not replace the jews but are branches ingrafted in to the vine of which jews were first atached. The unbelieving jews have been cut off so that the wild brances can be grafted in. This vine and all its brances is the true Israel.

Don't jump to conclusions
Posted On: 07/01/08 10:07:44 AM Age 37, PA
Earlier this year, there were similar articles concerning motions brought by the "vocal minority" within the United Methodist Church. I talked to several UMC pastors about the issue and they told me to watch and see what happened when these items got to the General Council. As predicted, they were all heard and shot down. My guess is that the same will come from the PC USA assembly (I hope). Don't lump an entire denomination in as holding to anti-semitism just because the vocal minority push it to the fore front. Don't get me wrong. The ideas that are being pushed are crazy and anti-semetic, but I don't believe the denomination as a whole holds this view.

Please read the article carefully before making a comment like this. She said, "...I know MANY Presbyterian readers of this do NOT agree with their church leadership." [emphasis mine]

Who is being blinded?
Posted On: 07/01/08 09:49:15 AM Age 61, MO
Apparently God has sent strong delusion to the many Evangelicals who think that the geopolitical state of Israel has some special place in God's favor. The Palestinians had occupied that land for centuries. Who gave Britain the authority to give the Jews that land for an Israeli State? When Jesus was crucified, the veil of the temple was torn down, and with it the wall of division between Jew and Gentile. Geographic Jerusalem, at that instant, was no longer considered the Holy City of God. Ever since the Jews began to occupy that land, they have systematically tried to ethnically cleanse the Palestinians from their own land. The modern State of Israel has no right to intimidate the Palestinians, and especially not to receive support from the U.S. The Presbyterians are right to raise an outcry at the despicable actions of the Israeli State against the Palestinians. Christians of every stripe should join in that outcry. George Cancilla

  2. Word Fullfilled
    Posted On: 07/02/08 03:27:28 PMAge 33, OK
Israel returned to her homeland fullfilling God's holy word. A Jewish man spoke of a dove that came and rested upon his shoulder during the seven day war. God brought them back unto their land. Land that God gave them that he had Abraham walk, land he promised Issac as he built up wells, land he carried Joseph bones too, land he had Moses look upon, land he led Joshua to conquer and win in victory, land covenanted to them for an everlasting inheritance. Obadiah speaks a warning to Edom for hatred towards their brother Israel and their jealousy and their apathy towards her. God longs for Israel more than a mother yearning for her child. She is the apple of his eye.He who watches over her shall neither slumber nor sleep. Jesus said not one iota of God's word shall pass away till all be fullfilled. Nations that rise up against Israel shall be punished. I wouldn't want to be included in these blind ministers that don't believe these scriptures shall come to pass too. "The Palistainians are violent murderous thugs read the book about the journalist held prisoner during Iran Contra affair and how Corrupt these Palistainians were as they lived in Lebanon fighting themselves and Catholics there and made plans to move into Israel to take it over." So whom is blind and who truly sees.

  3. Ethnic cleansing of Palestinians by Jews is a myth and a lie!
    Posted On: 07/02/08 08:27:21 AMAge 40, OH
God gave them this land as He said He would in Scripture. If there were so called 'ethnic cleansing' of Palestinians by Jews there would be no Palestinians living in Israel now would there? You need to read the Word of God instead of listening to the lies of men! But even logic tells you that Palestines preferring to live in Israel are not being ethnically cleansed.
