OBAMA’S CHURCH DEPARTURE: TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE

OBAMA’S CHURCH DEPARTURE: TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE

By Jan Markell

www.olivetreeviews.org

As Stanley Kurtz from National Review Online states this week, “Having now left Trinity United Church of Christ, can Barack Obama escape responsibility for his decades-long ties to Michael Pfleger and Jeremiah Wright?  No, he cannot.  Obama’s connections to the radical-left politics espoused by Pfleger and Wright are broad and deep.  The real reason Obama bound himself to Wright and Pfleger in the first place is that he largely approved of their political-theological outlooks.”

I agree that his leaving is much too late.  But the real question is, Has Obama truly left the theology and politics of the church he has attended without issue for 20 years and the man who mentored him through them?  Likely not anymore than I have left the tenets of the faith I had for twenty years in a very solid Evangelical church.  Here’s what Obama has supposedly left behind him:

  • The rejection of black “assimilation,” that is, assimilating black Americans into the American culture alongside white Americans.  But Obama shared Wright’s view on this subject and largely approved of Wright’s fiery rhetoric.  We know this because he so stated.

  • The doctrines of “Black Liberation Theology.”  But Obama joined Trinity after he and his wife attended new-member classes where the doctrines of “Black Liberation Theology” are taught and included hard copy in new-member packets.  The excuse that Obama did not know a lot about his church stretch credulity.  As Stanley Kurtz says, “It is inconceivable that Obama was not aware of all of this.”

  • The mentorship of Jeremiah Wright.  But Barack Obama has stated that Jeremiah Wright mentored him through the years and mentorship cannot be left behind; it is by definition part of who one becomes.  Obama is even featured occasionally in the Trumpet Newsmagazine – a periodical produced by Rev. Jeremiah Wright – once even sharing a cover photo alongside Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.  This alone is tantamount to an endorsement of what these men stand for, including anti-Semitism, “Black Liberation Theology,” and a fierce anti-American stand.

  • Trinity Church’s ties with terrorism.  But Obama and his wife did not leave the church when it posted a Hamas Manifesto in its church bulletin.  This same bulletin also stated that Israel planted an “ethnic bomb” to kill blacks and Arabs.  Hamas and other Middle East terror groups have endorsed Barack Obama in his bid for the presidency.

  • The teachings of Rev. James Cone, the founder of the “Black Liberation Theology” movement, which include the belief that Jesus was a black man, that Marxism can aid in a true understanding of the gospels, and that the white church in America is evil (or some might even say, is the Antichrist).  But Obama remained at a church where these teachings were espoused and taught week after week.  The April 2, 2008, issue of The Washington Times states, “The church where Sen. Barack Obama has worshipped for two decades publicly declares that its ministry is founded on a 1960s book [authored by Cone] that espouses ‘the destruction of the white enemy.’”  Rev. Cone is quoted in the same article as saying, “What we need is the divine love as expressed in black power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal.  Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject His love.”   Once again, Sen. Obama’s actions belie his words.

  • Socialism and Marxism.  But at the risk of belaboring a point, Obama’s presence over two decades at a church that espouses “Black Liberation Theology” belies this.  All liberation theology, including the kind that raged in Central America in the 1980s, is rooted in Socialism and Marxism.  Cone and Wright have stated that Marxism can aid in a true understanding of the gospels.

Another theology of Barack Obama would seem to be “Kingdom Now” – a belief system that states that mankind can make the world perfect.  I echo the sentiments of Sandy Rios, formerly of Concerned Women for America.  She says, “I fear (Obama’s) distortion of the true meaning of following Christ.  I fear soaring rhetoric that elevates man and promises a ‘kingdom right here on earth,’ and, rather than acknowledging our depravity, seeks to accommodate it.”

Combining “Black Liberation Theology” with “Kingdom Now Theology” produces one very spiritually mixed-up presidential candidate.  Christians who insist that Barack Obama is a committed Christian need a reality check.  Neither his former pastor nor Trinity Church is biblically sound.  To be frank, they are frighteningly radical, dangerous, and unbiblical.

As Stanley Kurtz ends his article in National Review Online, “So it would appear that Obama’s own writings solve the mystery of why he stayed at Trinity for 20 years.  Obama’s long-held and decidedly audacious hope has been to spread Wright’s radical spirit by linking it to a viable, left-leaning political program, with Obama himself at the center.  The revolutionizing power of a politically-awakened black church is not some side issue, or merely a personal matter, but has been the signature theme of Obama’s grand political strategy.”  However, it no longer serves him well.

Obama said he resigned his membership from Trinity United Church of Christ "with some sadness." Obama said he was not going to denounce the church, and that the church and its new pastor were suffering from all the attention because of his presidential campaign.  The closer Obama comes to securing the Democratic nomination for President, the more windows to his past will be shut. Obama tries to separate his public image from who he is privately because many of the American people would reject all or most of the above. Unfortunately, many more are turning a blind eye to it.

Voting whats right
Posted On: 06/09/08 01:58:26 PM Age 33, OK
Many people would choose Obama because of smooth silvered tongue public words but did they hear what he's spoking to Arabic speakers of toning things down Israel issues till he's done primaries, what he said about Likud, the man's loyalties towards your own country in pledging to our flag but now appearing on t.v with flag pin doing an aboutface to gain more broadsped votes.Did they hear of his questionable past finacial friends helping them out with government money and they patted his back later. Many people would vote for McCain because of their dislike for Obama,Democratic partys principles, etc. Their views of him as the lesser of two evils. But did they hear of his advisors in concordance with firing the Navy Chaplains that prayed in JESUS name. Did they hear he would have Jim Baker person as rep. to Israel who isn't too proIsraeli staying Israeli land. Many people would've voted for Huckabee because of him being a former minister and his faith. But did they listen to his CNN debate answer to biblical questions and hear a rehearsed answer not a quick answer of strong faith with holy spirit guidance in the face of nonbelief. Did they hear of his decision to cover up his son's crime of killing a dog while he was in scouts. Is this the sort of character that crys out Christian. The only two I've heard of I would consider voting for would be Alan Keyes who walked out Republican party when they tried to make McCain smell good to Christians he stood up and said something when they removed ten commandments from Court House and fired judge Roy Moore. They put up a historical past marker instead to "calm and pacify" the Christians down. He's a black man with past integrity and honesty but he doesn't have the PARTYS POWER behind him. I would also consider Ron Paul for the fact he would fight against the National id card and we as Christians KNOW what thats once step closer to the Mark.

Those calling themselves Christians are not always Christians
Posted On: 06/07/08 08:05:57 PM Age 33, OK
We see the fruit of their doings their ways and their companionship, if you've looked at what they've done whom they've agreed with. Read what this man has said about his faith and what he believes online about heaven hell. It's not exactly cut and dried (Christian) Read what he says about Israel and Likud party any man potentially to come against Israel decision to keep her land for her people is not following what the bible says. God covenated that land for her forever. Any person that says what pleases men and not God could you call a Christian? Choose men that stand for righteousness before in their lives not whom the democratic or republican party tell you to for actions speak louder than words.

This is a church that has been infiltrated from its original doctrines years ago by a group of persons intent on making it and every other Christian Church look bad. Mr. Obama was photographed as part of it. Now, first, he still holds to his mentor, and gives media the message that the church his mentor is in is bad, then he leaves, giving impression that leaving your Christian church is good--making the Christian religion look foolish by association. Never elect that kind of person. Or one who refuses to salute the flag or participate in the National Anthem, stating that if we used, "I'd Like to Teach The World To Sing" as our anthem, then he might salute. The fourth stanza of our anthem indicates we are not warlike or bellicose, as he complains, but defending our nation with our God's help--NOT Allah's help-- The God of our country's forefathers is not Allah, who is known to them as the god of the Moon. No wonder the anthem is off-putting, as he says...AND IT SHOULD BE. The Muslim strategy is to infiltrate and "offer" men who appease them compliance to their 7th Century culture system, if need be using force, then have them pose as "Christians"--saying anything that will accomplish their objective. To them, Jesus WAS a prophet, but not as important of a prophet as their Muhammed, and Jesus has no deity to them so they want anyone dead who has the good news that Jesus has received the Scepter of The Kingdom of Heaven and Earth from His Father, the God of our American forefathers. Mr. Obama says he is 'born again' and has accepted forgiveness of his sins, but cannot state, when cornered, that he belongs to Jesus(and at this juncture, I'm not sure I'd believe him if he said it now). He uses legal jargon to appear to say the same thing, but it is not. He has shown through his refusal to pledge allegiance to our flag he is afraid of being seen showing allegiance to the flag that is under protection of Jesus as God. Mr. Obama has appeased himself into Muslim good graces, and has been quoted in one of his own books if the political climate got ugly, he'd "side with the Muslims." There are racist comments, his own, in his books as well, and we're talking autobiograhy here--not fiction. Check it's truth on snopes.com. The change promised? I'd venture to guess-- Big government taking over the charity and the morality business by making it a requirement, and subsequently making true, voluntary Christian decency and charity a non-entity through ridicule and then follow with legal statute. You won't be allowed to share the good news. This same conflict has been relentless here for over two centuries ...I pray it ceases soon, but NOT by throwing in the towel through appeasement.

OBAMA IS A BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN...
Posted On: 06/03/08 02:06:32 PM Age 73, FL
One of the doctrin's of our Christian beliefs is that we should not cause division. These rumor's going around on the internet are false and we as Christian's should stand behind our Brother-In-Christ and let other's know that Barack is a born again believer. He has stated this numerous times and now it's our turn to inform others in truth that he is a Christian. WE NEED TO TAKE A STAND FOR CHRIST AND UNITE IN JESUS.

  1. DOES FOLLOWING JESUS ALLOW MURDER
    Posted On: 06/04/08 01:36:54 PMAge 64, OH
WHAT IS A BORN AGAIN BELIEVER. Is it not when the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ enters the spirit of a man and that man then follows Jesus Christ. How can a man claim to follow Jesus who said, do not murder, and then be for the killing of the most helpless and innocent babies who have no one to protect them. I think it is because these unborn babies can not vote even if they are born. But their mothers, who want to kill their own babies, can vote in the next election. Obama says he is for all the people and he is for the little people. But he is for the killing of the smallest and most innocent among us. Some day you will be old and unable to get to the poles to vote. These same people like Obama will vote that it is OK to not spend money to give you a place to live or food to eat. They will vote that it is OK to kill you just as they did the babies who could not vote. Jesus loved and cared for the young and old alike. There was not ONE who he did not care for. Lou

Obama just a bit more obvious than the others
Posted On: 06/03/08 12:19:22 PM Age 61, MO
The corporate fascists own Obama, Clinton, AND McCain. For that matter, they had their grubby hands on all the Republican and Democrat candidates, except Ron Paul. These corporate fascists are Marxists at heart, and their goal is t have more government which, of course, they will control. They care no more for Islam than they do for Christianity or Judaism. They love racial, religious, and gender conflict, and war. So, what if we got the goods on a diabolical Obama? Even if it is enough to keep him from winning, we end up with an equally diabolical Clinton or McCain. There is a true Christian running for President. His name is Chuck Baldwin. George Cancilla

Obama's Church Departure
Posted On: 06/03/08 10:28:34 AM Age 55, TX
It is a sad day in America when people try as hard as they do to make a person what that person is not. So what Obama attended this church. He says that these are not his beliefs and I must take him at his word. Even as I have had to take many at their word. Racism has been minister in the white churches for just as long or even longer than Obama has attended this church. There is a church right here in my community where both black and white worship together, but the pastor will not marry a black and white couple. Whatever his reason is it could very well be looked upon as racisim. I attended a church where the pastor was a whoremonger for a long period of time until which time I grew up in the Lord and realized that I didn't have to be or have a forgiving heart, but rather I had to get out from among that. Maybe Obama has grown up and realizes the wrong in such a veiw. But where do you go who do you turn to almost every church in America overlook the sin in its mist and shun you if you take a stand so where do you go. Perhaps Obama just didn't have any where else to turn. Trust me I know. Been there, Done that. Because I am black in America and don't have a racist bone in my body, but not because there haven't been things in my life that could have made me racist, only for the sake of Christ. I choose love rether than hate. Just Maybe that's Obama's stance also.

may i ask just what exactly gave you the idea that you do NOT have to be forgiving or have a forgiving heart? then you HATE God and are telling Him that He MUST forgive YOU but that You REFUSE TO FOLLOW HIS LEAD AND FORGIVE OTHERS AS HE HAS COMMANDED YOU.

  2. IS OBAMA AN AGENT OF CHANGE
    Posted On: 06/04/08 01:50:17 PMAge 64, OH
I would not vote for man who hated blacks or did not want to treat all men the same. I also will not vote for a man who does not want to treat white skinned people the same as black. GOOGLE Obama's church and read their own website. This is NOT what others are saying about them but what they say about themselves. There is not one white pastor among 20. The word black is all throughout the writing. They say they want to help black Christians. Jesus does not see us as black or white. They are prejudice in the extreme. Obama had to go through their entrance classes and ignorance is no excuse. He sat and listened to this man preach hate for 20 years and did NOTHING. Obama claims to be an agent of change, for that is his platform. WHY DID HE NOT BRING ABOUT CHANGE IN THIS LITTLE CHURCH. If Obama did not change that little church, then he can not be trusted to change this great nation. Lou

  3. Obama growing up?
    Posted On: 06/03/08 08:51:03 PMAge 56, OK
Obama has called the Rev? Wright his mentor and spiritual advisor. I don't see how that could be taken as no other choice. It looks like he could have distanced himself from this church much earlier if he didn't want it to look like a political move. I will admit that there is sin in the church. There are people there. Also we have been warned about tares with the wheat, but we have also been warned about false teachers. We need to stick to the Word and judge the candidates with thta asa standard, but also remenber that they are human.

  5. don't understand
    Posted On: 06/03/08 02:29:44 PMAge 47, TX
Obama only left the church because it was hurting him politically. He spoke highly of it until just last week. He would not have stayed there for 20 years if he did not agree with at least the majority of the hateful Black Liberation Theology going on there. He is a smooth talker, and somehow he continues to deceive so many people. I just cannot understand it. I guess it's all about politics. Look at Condoleeza Rice - she has some liberal leanings (pro choice, etc.), but otherwise she is a brilliant, highly capably person, and she happens to be a black female, which does not even matter, but the media hates her because she is conservative.

Maybe Obama did not know where to turn. But, this man is supposed to be a leader, not a follower. So this theory seems to belie his character. If you stay at the same church, teaching the same doctrine, for TWENTY YEARS, then you either agree with the doctrine being taught, or are apathetic. Either way, do you want to take a chance that he may, in fact, agree with the hateful doctrine that is spewed forth at Trinity United? The consequences could be disastrous for this country...
