The conservative movement's new leader

The conservative movement's new leader

By Janet Folger

What I love about Joseph Farah is that he's a trailblazer, changing the way America gets its news. He's also big enough to admit when he's wrong. During a break on my radio program back in the fall, he said, "You're really out there on a limb with Mike Huckabee." Later, when introducing me at his WorldNetDaily Taking America Back conference, he admitted that Huckabee went much further than he ever expected.

I predict he will go much further still.

But now, as much as I hate to, I must disagree with my friend Joseph Farah once again. Yesterday he wrote: "But Bill Buckley is gone. And so, in my opinion, is the conservative movement."

Yes, Bill Buckley was a true conservative leader. We will miss him as we miss Reagan. But no, the conservative movement is far from dead. It's just had some of its pseudo-conservative "dead weight" removed.

As a gentleman on the campaign trail summarized, "this election has showed me the leaders I can trust." He's right. There's a sifting going on, and the conservative movement is still being sifted as those who clamor for last-minute political favor have endorsed the candidate who stands for LESS of what they say they believe. People we trusted. People we loved. But as I've told Gov. Huckabee repeatedly as leader after leader turned their back on the only guy who embraced their beliefs: "God can do this without them."

I happen to know that God's specialty is the remnant. Just ask Gideon. His troops were pared down to 300 from 30,000 just so everyone would know the victory came from God. And so it is with Gov. Huckabee. Most campaigns had more of a staff entourage traveling with them than Huckabee had staff. They spent millions to his thousands while volunteers copied Huckabee signs and leaflets at their own expense. And yet he's one of the last two standing.

They had the "conservative talk show hosts," the national groups and national "leaders" who from this point forward will be seen for what they really do: follow.

I have another prediction. I predict that the new conservative movement, with its dead weight gone, will be leaner, faster, stronger and even more effective. And the new leader of the conservative movement is not a refabricated liberal activist named Mitt Romney. Nor is it the "No Free Speech Czar," John (can I find a liberal Democrat to co-sponsor something?) McCain.

The last man standing as the leader of the heart of the Republican Party is Gov. Mike Huckabee. He's the only candidate who stands for the Human Life Amendment and Marriage Protection Amendment – which just got even more important.

The California Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in San Francisco today and decide whether the state's definition of marriage will remain between a man and a woman or whether they will undermine and redefine marriage to include the union of two men and two women. Are you starting to see why we need marriage protected nationally? John McCain won't do it. Neither will Obama or Clinton. If California activist judges redefine marriage, Mike Huckabee is the only guy who will stand against them.

What you may not know is that Huckabee is also for less government and lower taxes. Despite what the pundits and Romney-funded hit men told you, in Arkansas, Huckabee cut taxes and fees almost 100 times, saving the taxpayers nearly $380 million – not bad for having to work with a Democratic legislature.

Huckabee is also for building that fence and securing our borders. Are you listening, Texas? Just ask Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist or Rep. Duncan Hunter, who have both endorsed him. McCain was the guy fighting for blanket amnesty – remember? And Ohio? Your jobs will be much safer in a Huckabee administration because beyond free trade, Huckabee's for fair trade and a level playing field. He doesn't like that a table made in the United States starts off with a 22 percent imbedded tax disadvantage, while the Chinese table made with slave labor gets a "leg up," so to speak, free and clear.

There's a reason why John McCain was more interested in serving BBQ with the media in Arizona instead of debating the issues. Not only does he not want his positions on life, marriage and free speech to become known, he doesn't want the people of Texas and Ohio to hear about where he stands on two people named Joshua and Terri.

Joshua Hubbard: He's the toddler Gov. Huckabee held in Ohio last week while Janet Huckabee held his little sister, Rachel; both are former frozen embryos. See Joshua's question to Sen. McCain: "What about me?" and all the children just like them who have not yet been adopted. To discard them is like going to an orphanage and saying, "Hey, little Johnnie, it doesn't look like you're going to be adopted pal, so we're going to just rip out your organs for other kids who need them, OK?" Absurd. All human life is valuable. And Mike Huckabee is the only one who "gets" that.

Terri Schiavo: Obama says helping her was his one great "regret" in life. He wishes he could go back in time and have a hand in starving a disabled women to death. Nice. But so does John McCain. Take a look at what he told Esquire (August 2006) and re-run Feb. 21, 2008:

"I understand the frustrations a lot of Republicans feel," McCain says. "We're not representing their hopes and dreams and aspirations. We worry about Ms. Schiavo before we worry about balancing the budget."

As Bobby Schindler said on my radio program last week, "What about the hopes and dreams of my sister (Terri Schiavo)?" Wasn't Barack's book about hope? Just not for the disabled, apparently. The audacity. And do we really want a candidate who thinks the budget is more important than human life? I don't. Huckabee stands for "the least" of us, and he's the only one.

I support Mike Huckabee for one more reason: The future of the conservative movement. I've been to the Republican conventions fighting for the pro-life plank in the platform. I can assure you we weren't doing it to prove a point. It wasn't to win a game of semantics. And Gov. Mike Huckabee alone stands with us on principle – not with those who fall for political expediency.

Texas? Ohio? Choose life today and show the world the conservative movement is not dead … just free from all the dead weight.

Buckley And Conservative Movement Dead
Posted On: 03/16/08 12:15:43 AM Age 66, MD
William F. Buckley’s “Conservative Movement” Still-Born, Dead-On-Arrival, Decades Ago, Because It Was Godless, Against Christ, Ignored God’s Word "Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain who build it." -- Psalm 127:1. By John Lofton, Editor, TheAmericanView.com The Lord Jesus Christ did not build the “conservative movement” house. Thus, it was a house built on sand, it fell and great has been the fall of it, a recent example of this fall being the “conservative movement’s” support for President of George W. Bush who has given us the most Godless, unconstitutional, debt-ridden, big spending Federal Government in our history. Even though most of its “leaders” claimed to be Christians, the “conservative movement” was dead-on-arrival because, from the beginning, it’s political plan was Godless, against Christ, and ignored the Bible. This “movement” vainly imagined succeeding without honoring Christ, succeeding through bread-alone, flesh-and-blood-only-politics when God tells us the REAL battle is a spiritual war which must be fought in the full-armor of God (Ephesians 6:10ff). An example of the Godlessness I allude to occurred when I was on Bill Buckley’s “Firing Line” program June 24, 1987. Referring to him having told Malcolm Muggeridge that he (Buckley) did not believe there was a Christian means of organizing society, I asked Bill: “Wouldn’t God’s Laws, wouldn’t the Laws of Christ be a means of organizing a society?” Buckley said: “No. Noƒ.The consent of the governed in societies ruled by the people is the ultimate source of authority.” Alexander Solzhenitsyn was once asked how just a few Communists could take over his country when it had a thousand years of being Christian? He replied: “We forgot God.” The leaders of the “conservative movement,” politically-speaking, forgot God. They forgot that the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord over ALL, including politics. They forgot that He is King of kings, Lord of lords, with ALL power in Heaven and on earth. They forgot Psalm 2:12 commands: “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.” I know all of what I say here is true because, from the inside, I ran with this “conservative movement” from the mid-1960s to 1980 when God, by His grace alone, raptured me from among this Christless crowd Ð something for which, literally, I will be eternally grateful To hear much more on this subject, please click here to hear the latest “The American View” radio show 145 http://www.theamericanview.com/dictator/media/997/show_145.mp3 If you’d like to interview John Lofton, you may reach him by calling: 301-873-4612; 410-760-8885; or by email: JLof@aol.com. 1. Why Conserve?
    Posted On: 03/17/08 08:08:27 AMAge 51, GA
Good stuff! The only thing worth "conserving" is righteousness and the only way to obtain, much less conserve righteousness, is by accepting Gods perfect sacrificial Lamb...His Son. It makes me sick to hear our so-called "conservative" blow-hards (Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity...)say: "I'm Christian". You don't hear them say: "I'm A Christian". They're either clueless about it being a personal and intimate relationship with Christ or these anti-PC's are being safe (PC) by not "offending" non-Christians. Let's face it, it's both. They see "being Christian" as just another department of one big religion. Like most (80%) people in this country, they have an affilliation with a group that has a cross as their logo. Our "conservative", "born-again" president says that we all (Christians, Hindus, Muslim...) worship the same god. No one wants to face the true reality of what this is. This "Christian nation" has been very easily seduced by the father of lies. The "church", in general, is a false convert that serves a spirit of antichrist. Gods prophetic Word concerning last days events is precisely playing out. There will only be a remnant of true conservatives and their names will be written in the Lambs Book of Life, not because of something they did, but because they are covered by the Blood of the Lamb that is seated at the right hand of the Father!

Right on, Huckabee for VP, not Romney!

The pundits are still pushing for the pretty boy mormon candidate, but let's keep our voices in unison for the one choice that does have a clearer picture of a Biblical worldview. Stow all the extraneous criticism, and push for a praying man in the second seat. Porter +++

  1. Do We Now Compromise or Stand On Biblical Principles?
    Posted On: 03/15/08 01:17:20 PMAge 45, NJ
When we compromise the standard of what a qualified candidate is then we lower the standard and set the precedent to lower it as far as it will go later until their is no longer a standard. WE CANNOT SUPPORT MCCAIN. He is for abortion, advocates deviance as a right and has no standard to speak of on self or national defense accept capitulation. Christians MUST vote for the Biblical Candidate, not the "most" Biblical. If there isn't a Biblical candidate to vote for then there isn't a vote to be cast. Yahweh is sovereign and He decides the outcome, remember? You do what you are supposed to then you stand on it, and get busy making your voice heard to those who are elected as you continue preaching the Gospel as you have never stopped doing. It's our job to vote Biblically, not pragmatically. Pragmatism in voting gets you people like McCain; someone you CANNOT TRUST. Patrick@OnlyJesusSaves.com I welcome your comments...

What You Should be asking Mike! Part 3
Posted On: 03/13/08 01:22:24 PM Age 35, ID
Lastly: You as a Christian are responsible for upholding republicanism within this nation as our founding fathers so wisely ordained. A Biblical nation is to be a republic, not a monarchy or democracy. The Bible you both claim to read warns against a monarchy in 1 Samuel 8. Among other things, said the Lord, the monarch would use compulsory labor, establish bureaucracies, impose excessive taxes, and nationalize the means of production. In a monarchy the voice of the king is as the voice of God, sound familiar? A democratic society, on the other hand, is one based on majority rule. It is law by majority opinion; Mr. Francis Schaeffer refers to it as the “dictatorship of 51% with no controls and nothing with which to challenge the majority.” When the nation is governed by the majority, the voice of the people becomes as the voice of God. Neither a monarchy nor a democracy is Biblical. The Biblical form of government is a republic, wherein the nation is governed by established laws. A Christian republic is to be governed by constitutional and BIBLICAL LAWS, and administered by just and godly representatives (2 Samuel 23:3) elected by the people. There is to be a division of powers and separation of powers, so that no government or branch of government has a monopoly of jurisdiction. As you should already know, Isaiah 33:22 was an important verse in the founding of the United States of America. Outlined in this verse are the 3 branches of government: judicial, legislative, and executive: “For the Lord is Judge [judicial], the Lord is our Lawgiver [legislative], the Lord is our King [executive]; He will save us.” I as most Christians alive today understand that our nation is no longer a Judeo-Christian nation, but that does not change the fact that when a man openly declares a firm belief in the Inerrant Word of God and allegiance to its doctrines, it must follow that he lives both his personal and public life in accordance with its commands. To be a Christian President and truly live up to the foundational values based upon the infallible, inerrant Word of God you must never abandon or subvert your Christian duties or else the moral power and authority of our nation will be lost. “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” Proverbs 14:34 and “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do” Psalms 11:3? While most Christians focus on one or two ethical issues that we believe are important to our Biblical God or lend our vote for the lesser of two evils we utterly fail in upholding our Christian duty and obligation to offer complete devotion to Jesus Christ. By not scrutinizing the actions of our political leaders and candidates through the Biblical microscope, we accept and foolishly endorse the vain philosophies of men and cast aside the only viable philosophy, a philosophy according to Christ which is founded upon the Word of God. God Bless, ESM http://puritancrier.googlepages.com

  1. Where in the Bible does it say that?
    Posted On: 03/17/08 09:58:28 AMAge 48, CA
God does not specify any form of government. What the Lord does do is call upon leaders, be they Kings, Military dictators, Presidents, Prime Ministers, or any other form of leader one can imagine to govern in a manner pleasing to Him within the powers they have. The more power one has, the more accountable one is to govern justly. In the words of the late Dr. J Vernon McGee "A Godly dictator is preferable to 535 godless representatives."

    1. Where pretell do you think the Original American government was modeled?
      Posted On: 03/21/08 04:26:35 PMAge 35, ID
Reread the response and focus your attention to the Biblical scripture provided. The reason a republican government was instituted was because the founders beleived it was the closest to a Biblical civil magistrate. The constitution was modeled under a Christian Worldview. Huckabee does not match up with that model. Examine many of his governing positions outside of abortion and sodomites. Open your eyes and stop being sucked into the Neocon vacuum. ESM

What you should be asking Mike! Part 2
Posted On: 03/13/08 01:20:40 PM Age 35, ID
The Christian state should not be directly involved in welfare. In the words of Paul: “If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Further, God has revealed specific non-governmental approaches to poverty relief (i.e. family & the church). Government opposes God when it opposes His revelations yet you claim to be his steward. Fourth: What about our American right to private property? Did you decide not to mention or think about what your God has decreed in His Holy Bible about this matter? Two of the Ten Commandments, at least implicitly, teach the right to private property: “You shall not steal: [and] you shall not covet.” (Exodus 20:15, 17). If all property were held in common, stealing and coveting would not be possible. Too, in Matthew 20 Jesus teaches the parable of the workers in the vineyard, in which He concludes that it is lawful for a man to do what he wishes with his own possessions (verse 15). Then there is the Biblical teaching on Naboth’s vineyard in 1 Kings 21, where we are taught that the civil magistrate is forbidden to expropriate private property. This consideration makes “eminent domain” laws for “public projects” nothing other than ungodly intrusions. Your silence regarding these issues screams of your ungodly endorsement of our current state of affairs. Fifth: What about the rule of law as prescribed by your Creator? A righteous nation must establish legal principles which are founded upon the Ten Commandments and the “general equity” of the Judicial laws which God gave to Israel. All substantive law is to be founded on the teaching of Scripture. It is also mandatory that the settled laws of our nation be applicable to all persons, including leaders. No one with the nation is above the law yet you both believe you wield the power to pardon convicted murderers and rapists!!! The founding fathers believed that the law is king rather than the king is law. William Symington has summed up the obligation of a nation that claims to be Christian with the following national standard: “It is the duty of nations, as the subjects of Christ, to take His law as their rule. They are apt to think it enough that they take, as their standard of legislation and administration, human reason, natural conscience, public opinion, or political expediency. None of these however, nor indeed all of them together, can supply a sufficient guide in affairs of state. Of course, heathen nations, who are not in possession of the revealed will of God as you both claim to be, must be regulated by the law of nature, but this is no good reason why those who have a revelation of the divine will, such as yourselves, should be restricted to the use of a more imperfect rule. Orthodox Christians have declared throughout the course of history that the Bible is to be our rule, not only in matters of a purely religious nature, in matters connected with conscience and the worship of God, but in matters of a civil or political nature. For you to claim that in such civil and political matters we have nothing to do with the Bible ordinances are to maintain what is manifestly untenable. If nations are truly being ruled by moral subjects, they are bound to regulate their conduct by whatever law their moral Governor has been pleased to give them; and as they are subjects of this Mediator, they must be under the law of the Mediator as contained in the Scriptures. You see, in the Holy Scriptures of truth; He has given them a fairer and more complete exhibition of the principles of immutable and eternal justice, then that which is to be found in the law of nature. We only have to look into the volume of revelation itself; to have these reasoning’s confirmed.

What you should be asking Mike! Part 1
Posted On: 03/13/08 01:15:44 PM Age 35, ID
Candidate Mike Huckabee You routinely declare that you consider yourself a practicing Christian man of faith. Although regular prayer and routine attendance at church services are very becoming, I wonder how many Christians that currently support or that are thinking about supporting you have considered the basic Christian values which are essential for any nation to be considered righteous and holy by God. I understand that a President alone cannot change the ethical values of our nation, but what have you done to try and achieve these standards for the glory of the God you openly claim allegiance too. First: Have you publicly recognized the Sovereignty of God? God’s sovereignty is universal: “The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19); “Our God is in heaven, He does whatever He pleases” (Psalm 115:3). As stated in the Westminster Confession (5:1): “God the Creator of all things, does uphold, direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things, from the greatest even to the least, by His most wise and holy providence, according to His infallible foreknowledge, and free and immutable counsel of His own will.” Regarding national matters, when have you ever openly recognized the sovereignty of God over the state, society, race, or church as the source of our national security? The Psalmist says “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes [magistrates]” (118:8-9); Vain is the help of man. Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who will tread down our enemies” (60:11-12).When the people of a nation look to the civil magistrate, or to the church rather than in God, to meet their needs, they have denied the sovereignty of God. Second: What have you ever done in your public offices to try and limit government as God has prescribed. A Sovereign God necessitates limiting the power and authority of all human institutions yet both of you have sought to expand it. In a Biblical society, the civil government would not have the authority to regulate banking practices, to impose taxes over ten percent, to establish professional armies, to run the postal department, to redistribute property, to make zoning laws, to buy and sell real estate, to borrow money, and so forth. In Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2, we read that the authority of the magistrate is limited to that of defense and justice. In the words of the Westminster Confession 23:1: “God, the supreme Lord and King of all the world, has ordained civil magistrates to be under Him over the people, for His own glory, and public good; and, to this end, has armed them with the power of the sword, for the defense and encouragement of them that are good, and for the punishment of evil doers.” You claim allegiance to this biblical God with your lips yet your policies and political agendas normally never line up with these declared prescriptions. Third: Why have you forgot about what scripture states about the primacy of the individual? The Bible teaches us about doctrines of individual election, regeneration, justification, adoption, and sanctification, etc. The primacy of the individual in no way denies that God has from all eternity entered into a covenant with His elect people which is the church of Jesus Christ and is the communion of saint, but God fulfills His covenant historically through the salvation of individual saints. Every man, women, and child is individually responsible to God. Neither one’s bloodline nor national citizenship saves him: “But as many as received Him [Christ], to them He gave the authority to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13 The numerous individual freedoms and protections that citizens of our nation should enjoy are derived from this doctrine: freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and so forth. Also derived from this doctrine is individual responsibility within society. No able-bodied person should be “on the government dole.”

What is Conservative?
Posted On: 03/13/08 12:09:36 PM Age 61, MO
We need to break away from the grip of the two party politics that has infested the United States. It is a mistake for Christians to think of the GOP as "God's own party." Conservatism in government needs to hold to the doctrine that the least amount of government is all that is necessary to protect citizen's liberties. Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry could be considered as two of the original standard bearers of this type of "conservatism." George Cancilla

Fake conservative
Posted On: 03/13/08 10:31:39 AM Age 48, CA
Anybody who spouts hyperbole over terrorism in the same maner liberals do about guns, religion, and other social agendas is a fake conservative. True conseratives resist hyperbole. Any Christian who supports our current gospel of bombs & bullets is a fake christian. Christ does not call for such a gospel. Anyone who is terrorised by those so called terrorists has a faith which is weak at best, fake at worst for it should not be poosible to terrorise a Christian with physical violence. Anyone who cowers behind a corupt self serving military industrial complex has thier faith in the wrong place.

To be a leader of the conservative movement, don't you actually have to be a conservative? There are some admirable things about Mr. Huckabee, but he really doesn't fit the bill if you boil it all down - which he would maybe be a fine leader for whatever movement it is - but it isn't the conservative one.
