Pakistan: What it all Means

By Jan Markell

www.olivetreeviews.org

Time Magazine states, "The U.S. has few options in Pakistan. One thing is clear, says Peter Galbraith, senior fellow at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation: It is not a good idea to have 70 nuclear weapons in the hands of a country that is falling apart.”

I echo the sentiment of John Terry from Revelation Files, "Pakistan’s government intercepts an al-Qaeda message congratulating its members for assassinating Bhutto, and claims to have evidence of both al-Qaeda and the Taliban’s involvement in her death.  This is a pivotal time for Pakistan, as there is no real leadership in the country, outside the leadership of the gun.  Many are calling for Musharraf to bring in NATO troops to help stabilize the area, as his own army and police force has been infiltrated by Muslim extremists.  Pakistan is a nuclear power, and a hotbed for Islamic radicals, and the Musharraf government is either unwilling or unable to quell the growing number of terrorists within their border on its own.  It is a dangerous time, and violence from Bhutto’s death is now spreading into Afghanistan.

"If radicals assassinate Musharraf and/or are able to capitalize on their gains and wrest control of the country (and its nuclear arms), the dangers to Israel and the Western world are ratcheted to a new level.  An international NATO force could help restore order and move the nation toward democracy, one of the goals of Bhutto and her many supporters.  Pakistan could also call for US special forces to help sweep through known terror sanctuary cities, striking a major blow to al- Qaeda and Taliban elements in the region.

"Decisive action is needed to prevent civil war in Pakistan, and a destabilized region only serves to fuel the interests of radical Islam."

Joel Rosenberg asks, “Why does Bhutto’s death matter? To be blunt: Pakistan and her nuclear weapons are in danger of falling into the hands of Islamic radicals. Such radicals have attempted to assassinate Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf multiple times in the last few years, hoping to seize control of the government and impose sharia law. The attack is a sobering reminder that Pakistan is just one coup d'etat away from Osama bin Laden or one of his fanatical, murderous allies suddenly gaining control. It is difficult to imagine a more nightmarish scenario than al-Qaeda in possession of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal, but this is not an impossibility.

Gary Bauer reminds us, “Bhutto survived a previous assassination attempt in October involving coordinated bombings that killed more than 150 people and wounded hundreds more. She did not falter from her cause; she pressed on.  According to press reports, a baby was turned into a human bomb in that failed attempt. The child was strapped with explosives and passed person-to-person through the crowd in the hopes that Bhutto would hug the baby, which is what any decent person would do. But Bhutto’s enemies, our enemies, freedom’s enemies exploit our sensitivities and turn babies into bombs.

This is the evil Bhutto was confronting. Her voice has been silenced. The rest of the civilized world must take up her cause. We cannot ignore it. We cannot compromise with it. We must defeat it or it will defeat us.”

We are in perilous times (II Timothy 3) so stay tuned.

Rebutting George Cancilla of MO
Posted On: 01/03/08 06:25:27 AM Age 44, DC
"Consider that the U.S. CIA, holding hands with the Israeli MOSAAD, have instigated and manipulated regime change in Pakistan as well as other Mid Eastern sovereign nation states". Not true. Pakistan's first regime-changes occured PRIOR to it signing CENTO pact (and giving US lease of Peshawar AFB). Other regime changes, except one (late 1971) have been almost exclusively internal; in that particular case, a civilian (who had earlier been elected Opposition Leader, but refused to allow the legally-elected PM to take office) overthrew a military regime which had started--and badly lost--a civil war, by "inviting" a third party (India) into it. Not only history, Cancilla is also ignorant of geography. Pakistan is physically/geographically in South Asian Sub-continent, not in the Middle East; it was historically carved out of British India due to a nominal Ismaili (didn't know Koran, drank more than battleship crews, ate bacon regularly) wanting power, but afraid of losing (due to the potential of the majority voting against him).

Pakistan and the MId East in general
Posted On: 12/29/07 05:54:44 AM Age 61, MO
I lament the brutal murder of Benazir Bhutto, but not as a martyr. Empty emotional rhetoric about this matter generates fear and anger: characteristics that when acted on impulsively result in bad decisions. Consider that the U.S. CIA, holding hands with the Israeli MOSAAD, have instigated and manipulated regime change in Pakistan as well as other Mid Eastern sovereign nation states. These covert activities have been going on for several decades. It is one thing to gather intelligence, but yet quite another to instigate insurrection for the cause of a greedy imperialistic Anglo American global corporatists. The citizens of the Mid East countries are exploited at the hands of their bought out leaders, while the average U.S. citizens don't benefit from their government's empirical plunder. Rather than benefit, they suffer the burden of extra debt and the burden of the death of many of their young men necessary to implement this aggressive exploitation of sovereign foreign states. The U.S. had better cease and desist from stealing from foreign countries and its own citizens, or the mess that the U.S. will see right here on the homeland will make the Bhutto killing look like a picnic. 1. Liberal Isolationist crackpot?
    Posted On: 12/30/07 12:17:18 PMAge 52, GA
Mr. Cancilla, are you suggesting we stay out of foreign affairs? It seems to me you are suggesting our CIA and the Israeli secret service are more evil than Al Queda or Hamas or Hezbollah, et al. We are the most giving generous nation on earth, but you seem to suggest that our only motivations derive from corporate greed. Our continuing major concern is Islamic radicals with nuclear weapons, whether they are democratically elected or not. The concept of mutual assured destruction is right up their alley. Our democracy is a shining light to the world, largely, because it was brought into being by Christians. You want to point your finger at evil government, point it at yourself. When was the last time you were actively involved in the government process? Have you ever spoken the truth boldly in a public forum? Get out in the community and share the gospel George, it's much more rewarding than contemplating conspiracy theories. Lastly, pray for the light of truth to prevail in all these situations, foreign and domestic.

    1. Foreign Affairs
      Posted On: 01/03/08 01:21:09 PMAge 61, MO
Yes. I am suggesting that the U.S. government stay out of foreign political affairs. Yes. I am suggesting that U.S. CIA and Israeli secret service have been involved in numerous evil activities. The motivation of U.S. leadership has derived from corporate greed, and many of the citizens have followed after them. I am deeply concerned about nuclear weapons no matter who has them. The U.S. is no longer a shining light to the world. Pre emptive war, no matter on whom, is not a very good Christian witness. George Cancilla
