I can see the finish line!

I can see the finish line!

By Janet Folger

I can see the finish line.

For three and a half decades, we have marched uphill in Washington on the coldest day of the year: Jan. 22 – the anniversary of Roe v. Wade – all the way to the Supreme Court building. Pro-lifers know it well: As you make your way up Constitution Avenue, you look back to see the tens of thousands who stand with us. As you turn the corner, you see the goal: the U.S. Supreme Court.

We have now turned the corner, and I can SEE the finish line. That Supreme Court is right now within our grasp.

As a college kid speaking at youth rallies and the Memorials for Life, I said when Roe v. Wade is overturned, I'm having the victory party. And many in the movement politely smiled, inwardly thinking they would never live to see that party. Oh, we're gonna see it; and we're gonna see it soon.

Then there's a crowd in Washington whom I affectionately refer to as the "status-quoers." They're happy with the crumbs, the parental consents, the partial birth abortion bans, but they fight real efforts to stop the killing completely. We've waited long enough. After 34 years, the time has come.

Having spent two-thirds of my life in the pro-life movement, I've felt all the emotions: the dashed hopes, the disappointments, the overwhelmed, taken for granted, frustrated, used, devastated, skeptical, tired, wanting to quit, try to squeak out one more election exhaustion. But there is something different now. Something that can move even those who were so disgusted that they actually sat it out in 2006, something the status-quoers didn't expect. We have turned the corner on this issue, and I'm telling you, I can SEE the finish line.

You saw the YouTube Republican debate on CNN last week? Want to know why it was last week? It was originally scheduled for Sept. 17, but CNN had to re-schedule it. Want to know why? Because there was another debate on Sept. 17 – the Values Voter Presidential Debate.

The naysayers said the candidates wouldn't come,
But they did.

They said CNN would never back down,
But they did.

They said there wouldn't be a clear winner,
But there was.

They said he would never make it to "tier one,"
But he did.

They said he would never be a front-runner,
But he is.

Gov. Mike Huckabee is now the front-runner in Iowa, tied for second in New Hampshire and third nationally!

Following last week's re-scheduled debate, Rasmussen reports that although Giuliani led nationally by 12 points, "Huckabee has pulled to within three points of the front-running Rudy Giuliani."

They said he could never compete with Hillary, but Rasmussen released new polling data yesterday showing that in a head to head contest, Gov. Huckabee is now within a single percentage point of Hillary Clinton!

The New York Times reported the question Mitt Romney was asked "about what he would say as a management consultant if one enterprise 'spent about $7 million and one spent about $300,000 and they got the exact same results in market share.' He was alluding to the approximate amounts Mr. Romney and Mr. Huckabee have spent respectively in (Iowa) so far. Mr. Romney bristled and said: 'Sorry, I don't have a particular comment on that.'"

When you flip on every issue, your credibility is about that of Hillary speaking of her "strong faith" at Rick Warren's summit promoting a condom-driven solution to AIDS. Faith in what? Isaiah 29:13 helps to break through the rhetoric to the record: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me."

As I wrote about last week, no one seems to remember what Rudy Giuliani had said of the previous Clinton administration: "Most of Clinton's policies are similar to most of mine." No different now – no wonder his support is disintegrating. We don't need a Hill-iani.

What do we need? Someone who actually believes the book the candidates were questioned about last week. The questioner may have been a Democratic plant like all the rest, but his question about whether or not the candidates actually believe every word of the Bible is valid. Giuliani and Romney want to cherry-pick the parts they like and disregard things like the commandment about not committing adultery and the part about how God hates the shedding of innocent blood or that John 3:16 verse about God giving His only begotten Son.

Gov. Huckabee believes that book, and he lives it. Yesterday, on CBS' "Early Show," when asked about the Proverb a day that he reads, he quoted Proverbs 3:5-6:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

That's why when Gov. Mike Huckabee asked me to serve with the former Southern Baptist Convention President James Draper as a co-chair of the Faith and Family Values Coalition, I didn't hesitate to say yes. I am pleased to be a part of this effort of people like Jerry Falwell Jr. and Georgia Right to Life who have now endorsed Gov. Huckabee. I am planning to join Rick Scarborough this week in Iowa to speak at a number of rallies to break away from the crumbs and the status quo to actually see victory on the issues that matter most.

I can see the finish line. Victory is right before our eyes, so grab a baton and run for the prize. If you'd like to join those who stand with Mike Huckabee as he stands for life, e-mail me your contact information and group affiliation, and we'll add you to the rapidly growing list below. It will also serve as the invitation list for my victory party bash when Roe v. Wade crumbles to the ground and children are protected once again. Maybe President Mike Huckabee can play in the band when we all go to the Mall not to march but to dance.

Promise with me all of you that this president, Mike Huckabee, we will "stay on like white on rice." The Bush family has been an utter disappointment to me, except that he managed not to give away the farm en-toto. So promise me Janet, and all who meander this forum, that we shall hold this man true to his word and hold his feet to the fire if he does not. PROMISE ME WE SHALL NOT WAVER IN OUR DUTY TO DO DUE DILIGENCE IN THIS ENDEAVOR. All say "Aye" or "Nay" with your name. I, for one, say "AYE!"

Big Government Mike

Janet is like so many Christian Republicans. She wants "us" to get in power so that we can use the power or government for good. Why is it right for us to wield that power and not for others if they get control? She doesn't like Ron Paul because he wants to get government out of our lives. Abortion is one such issue. Check out what he really thinks about the issue. http://www.ontheissues.org/TX/Ron_Paul_Abortion.htm Huckabee is saying the same kinds of things that Carter, Reagan and both Bushes said. Has abortion gotten eliminated under our "Christian" president? Why would we expect another politician to do any differently? You can look at Ron Paul's voting record for his career. He's been doing and saying the same things for all of it. And there really are other issues besides abortion, awful as it is. Again I ask, did Huckabee eliminate abortion in Arkansas? No, because the federal government wouldn't let him. Here's what Ron Paul had to say about that very problem. "I'm surprised that I don't have more co-sponsors for my Sanctity of Life Act. It removes the jurisdiction from the federal courts & allows the states to pass protection to the unborn. Instead of waiting years for a Constitutional Amendment, this would happen immediately, by majority vote in the Congress and a president's signature. It's a much easier way to accomplish this, by following what our Constitution directs us. Instead of new laws, let's just use what we have & pass this type of legislation." In other words, keep the federal government out of what isn't constitutionally it's business. Can Huckabee make the same claim?

Not Anymore

Huckabee had my vote until I found out about three things: 1) His stances on illegal immigration are worse than the liberals' stances. These are not lies and slanders toward him at all, either, it's just the unfortunate truth. He supported giving illegal immigrants scholarships and in-state tuition to public schools. 2) His recent refusal to recant comments about AIDS victims needing to be "corralled" together and locked away. It's fine that he said it in 1992, I understand that, but to not recant them now? Don't think so. 3) Most people I've talked to in Arkansas can't stand this guy. They say he raised taxes on them, and was very disconnected to the wishes of the people of the state. Just because someone's a Christian doesn't mean they're fit to lead the country. I'm a Christian, Mrs. Folger is a Christian... but I don't think I'd vote for either one of us based solely on that. My vote is shifting back to John Edwards.

  1. Theology Degree or Not?!

Here's some more troubling information about Huckabee. He keeps claiming to have a degree in theology when he clearly does not. What would we say about Hillary if she kept making claims which were untrue. Doesn't help his credibility at all. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=59222

Nominate Huckabee. That way it will be so simple to defeat the Republicans. People are sick and tired of religious nuts in the White House after the Schiavo thing. He would lose big. Then Roe v. Wade will be codified in law and you woman haters will be powerless to stop women from obtaining abortions. Your little movement will die a quick death and people will forget the evil you committed. You are wrong on this issue and the people know it. If the race is over abortion you lose.

You accuse people of hate and hate for women. but your post is the one filled with hate and invalid reasoning. You claim to love women but you are in favor of killing women at birth. You claim the majority of the people are for abortion but this is simply NOT TRUE. the majority of people are not for abortion on demand. You are against the simple education of showing people what abortion looks like. I would be in favor of a full showing of both sides on national TV. this would include of course both sides and would also include the showing of the abortion of a actual female baby fighting for it's little life. when any human being with a heart saw how hard these poor little innocent girls fight for just the right to live; I have no doubt that abortion would be struck down so quick that it would surprise the prolife group. Presidential candidates aside, that was a very aggressive post. I have some q’s. What health problems can be treated with partial birth abortions? Why is a disproportionate number of abortions performed on African Americans? Why are Planned Parenthood facilities always located in poor neighborhoods with prominant minority populations? If women have a legal right to an abortion, why do they not have the right to be informed of the risks of and alternatives to abortion? Who determinines when life begins AND ends? How do you define "evil?"

JESUS IS THE ONLY ANSWER

In the primaries I would certainly vote for Huckabee over Giuliani and would certainly vote for Huckabee over Hillary. But even if you get six BILLION people to endorse Huckabee; Jesus Christ and one other person would be a majority if they were against him. While I hope for Mike Huckabee to get elected over most of those running; I also realize that this nation will need a lot more than Mike Huckabee to save it from destruction. The people who are the church in this nation needs to truly humble themselves before The Lord Jesus Christ and ask Him to reveal their sin to them so that they can confess it and repent of it. Unless this happens SOON this nation will be destroyed. Lou

I Can See the Finish Line
Posted On: 12/12/07 12:07:07 PM Age 61, MO
If Mike Huckabee were to be elected President, he would be just another in a long line of presidents starting with FDR, that have promoted and supported an aggressive, imperialistic, and often violent foreign policy, that has done nothing to protect Americans. On the contrary, such policies have brought death to millions of people around the world, including our own citizens. Huckabee will continue to support the military industrial economy that thrives on permanent war. The exscuses for this perpetual war have run the gamut from Nazism, Cold War, to the most recent concoctions of War on Terror and Islamofascism: all propaganda techniques to instill fear among the populace to cause popular support for violence and death. This is hardly pro life. As far as I know, Huckabee intends to continue a fraudulent fractional reserve monetary policy, which is now proving itself to hardly be in the best interests of the average citizen. He recently addressed a conference of Baptist ministers, making a statement that "we need to take America back for Christ." That sounds like something that would come from the camp of Rick Warren or Dominionist theology. If Huckabee wants to win souls to Christ, then he should go back to his Baptist pulpit and preach pro Life (capital L)as in Jesus Christ. George Cancilla

I agree with you, George Cancilla. Huckabee is only saying what he believes the Christians want to hear in order to get their endorsement much the same way Bush did. And then, he will continue to support those who are pushing the world government and destroying our Constitution as well as our Country. He was even interviewed by the CFR. Huckabee had a terrible fiscal policy, let a rapist out of jail to continue to rape and murder women, and supported illegal immigration when he was Governor. Don't listen to the words, look at his past behavior and record. His walk does not match his talk.

Do what is right
Posted On: 12/12/07 11:08:36 AM Age 49, IL
As Christians, we need to support the candidate who stands for God's laws, regardless of whether we feel he can win or not. Otherwise, we are compromising, and then, we get exactly what we deserve. Just think, if we all support Mike Huckabee and tell our friends about him, just as has been happening, the media will pay attention and start focusing on him (as they now are doing) and then he will have a chance to win. Go to his website and read what he believes about the issues, and then contribute to his campaign and tell your friends. We must not compromise when it comes to life (for the unborn and aged), freedom of speech and religion, and believe me , we will lose these rights if we don't get on board with a candidate who will stand up for them.
