We are in historic and perilous times.There are trends in America that are troubling. We have been God’s favored nation in spite of ourselves.The Bible states that “of whom much is given, much is required” (Luke 12:48) and that tells me God has a higher standard for America. Therefore, God has to be grieved and, yes, angry over some recent issues in this great nation.
Last week on the Washington Mall, loudspeakers spewed Tibetan chanting as the Dalai Lama was about to receive America’s highest civilian honor—the Congressional Gold Medal. Why? I guess because he is a “warrior for peace.”Signs said “There can be no peace without first obtaining inner peace.”I’m sorry, only Jesus offers that, my Buddhist friends. But to our highest leaders including our president, the Dalai Lama was “a great spiritual leader” who was addressed as “his holiness.”
In California, “Mom and Dad” and “husband and wife” have been banned from California schools under a bill signed by Gov. Schwarzenegger. We must be gender-neutral. Additionally, in public schools girls and boys can use each other’s restrooms. With a stroke of his pen, the Governor told parents that their values do not matter.
This year the EmpireStateBuilding was lit green to honor Ramadan.Authorities said this would become an annual event in the same tradition of the yearly Christmas lightings (which are banned in many places.)
Currently, there is talk of pressuring Israel to divide Jerusalem. At the recent State Department observation of Ramadan, Condoleeza Rice told Muslim attendees, “Palestinians have waited long enough for the dignity that will come with their own state.” The highest leaders in our land still do not comprehend that Palestinian leadership and many of their followers do not WANT a state side-by-side with Israel. They just want the entire land with Israel in the sea. Yet America negotiates away the borders of God’s land oblivious of the warnings given in Joel 3. The Palestinians will only get “dignity” when their leaders allow them to. Don’t hold your breath.
Our president must set an example. It does not help when he stated two weeks ago, “I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God.”What does this say to our youth or to the other nations around the world? It denies that we are a nation run by Judeo-Christian principles and that “many gods” are just fine for America.
The media did not give much coverage to the homosexual debauchery in San Francisco two weeks ago.How could they? The degradation was so abhorrent due to the antics of this crowd that righteous people could have revolted. But San Francisco was proud.
The Bible says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Ps. 33:12). We owe Him so much more than this and other issues that could be listed, but space does not allow it. Our leaders need to have the fanfare for the living God and not a mere mortal, the Dalai Lama, who serves many gods.Will this happen?I am beginning to wonder.With the forthcoming election I am reminded that ancient Israel always got the kings she deserved. And she got some rotten apples.Will we?

Forgive us our transgressions O Lord our God, for we have sinned against you. Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor we have failed.
We acknowledge with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God upon our nation. Especially the opportunity afforded our founders to peaceably establish our form of government and those allowing and providing for our safety and happiness through the course of our accession. We sing your praises once again Lord. For God has dealt bountifully with us.
Help us O Lord our God, as a nation to arise and build and bless You again. Help us return to teaching our children the Ten Commandments and the history of our country, including the events of 9/11 so that we may no longer be a reproach to others. Help us be an example so that when people and nations despair in their trials, troubles and tribulations they will see the Grace of God shine on us, and seek to know Him themselves.
Let us pray as George Washington did with Thanksgiving in our heart "that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have show kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best." Shortly after Gov.Schwarzenegger signed the gender-neutral bill, the winds reversed, replacing the prevailing Western cool, moist Pacific breezes with the harsh, hot, dry Eastern Santa Ana winds. Small brushfires were fanned into major conflagrations causing untold devestation. Does anyone think the Governor has noticed that when God's thoughtful natural order gets messed up, really bad consequences happen? So, you're telling me that a perfectly possible and common climate change and a perfectly possible string of brushfires (which i believe they found out was started by a person, and i dont think God would tell anyone to intentionally light things on fire) is evidence that God is striking back at "the Governator"? If God deals with sin that way, then America would burned itself to the ground in the 1800's when we allowed slavery and killed Native Americans in the name of God so we could take their land. or when Nixon did watergate. Or when Bill Clinton had a little too much fun with a lady friend. Ted Haggard's church would have been destroyed. The Catholics would be gone because of those silly priests who couldnt handle celibacy and decided to pick the wrong age group to satisfy themselves. You need to think about all of those incidents and more before you can claim that God actually passes judgement that way. No, You are saying that. My post above is much shorter and say nothing of the kind. It simply means that is is not wise to mess with God's natural order of things because God knows what He is doing and we do not. If a change in wind has disastrous consequences, how much worse will be the fallout from changing His well-thought-out plan for marriage and the family. Is the United States of America "one nation under God," or is it a nation under servitude to a government that is in opposition to the values and laws of God? The United States, as a body politic, has never made any pretension of allegiance to Jesus, but the citizens have been conditioned to pledge allegiance to the nation's flag. Because of not stating allegiance to Jesus, the founding fathers created a space in which a new religion could arise. True liberty comes only through Christ. True freedom is an experience that comes from knowing and obeying Jesus. It is not something any worldly government can either grant or deny. The "god" in which most Americans put their trust is an idol quite different from the God of the Christian faith. It more like the ideological god of humanism. Many U.S. citizens have fallen prey to the presumptuous notion that their nation is God's chosen people (not unlike geopolitical Israel). Americans have been deceived about the way God has blessed them. Economic wealth is rarely a sign of God's blessing. In those cases where God does bless a person or nation with wealth, it is not His intent that the wealth should be stored up. Money is a powerful force, and one that can easily become a false god. Maintaining affluence has been a major factor to the wars the U.S. has waged abroad. Power in the United States has always been in the hands of the wealthy elite, from colonial land owners to large corporations to lobby groups. A massive amount of nationalism reared its ugly head after the 911 tragedies. Christians are called to be a holy, set apart people in the midst of their pagan neighbors; not more vocal about praising and defending a golden calf United States system. We, as American citizens, should be asking forgiveness for the patriotic idols we have created, and our arrogance in relating to other nations. There is blood on the hands of many greedy Americans from the lives they have taken to appease their idols of liberty, democracy, and wealth. The citizens of the United States of America are inheriting lies, vanity, and materialism. The people will be wise to know that the Lord will curse the man who trusts in man, and whose heart is not with God. (see Jeremiah 17:5-11). George Cancilla Click here to reply to this post
