It is not very often that a visit to a museum brings me to tears. In fact, with the exception of a visit to a holocaust museum, I can think of none. This is especially the case when the visit includes long lines to get in the door and then another wait to see the exhibits. In the case of the CreationMuseum, however, neither long queues outside, nor large crowds inside, detracted from the experience or the message.
For the record, I am not an uninterested observer. I have been a great fan and promoter of the Answers in Genesis ministry long before the CreationMuseum took shape just south of Cincinnati. When the project became a reality I donated money for the completion of the museum, and planed to travel to it with my family as soon as possible. Even without my favorable predisposition, however, I believe most unbiased people would mirror my praise for what has been accomplished there.
To begin, the entertainment level of the museum is very good. This may seem like an odd place to start, but in order to capture today's culture and hold their attention it is necessary to approach all things with some measure of glitz. The museum has definitely taken advantage of available technology and the ample creative talent to produce exceptional displays.
A sensurround theater production entitled "Men in White" is slated as the opening exhibit. Without providing a spoiler, I can confidently say few people would find "Men in White" dull or dry. More importantly, it whets a visitor's appetite to want to follow the rest of the displays through the Museum's main attraction, a veritable walking tour of history. Visitors are told to “Be prepared to experience history in a completely unprecedented way,” and they will not be disappointed.
The museum categorizes all of history by what it terms "The Seven C’s.” These are, in order: creation, corruption, catastrophe, confusion, Christ, cross, and consummation. They present an overview of history according to the Bible. It does so, first, by confronting the visitor with the overwhelming reality and destructive power of sin, initiated at the Fall. Secondly, the museum confronts the visitor with the only answer to the problem of sin, the redeeming message of Christ's Gospel.
Along the way a myriad of thoughtful displays, backed by well researched findings, lush panoramas plus some compelling audio and video clips, make for a thoroughly engaging experience. Add a wealth of extraordinary fossils, mineral displays, and some extremely realistic, life sized, animatronic dinosaurs and a world class museum comes to life.
It is notable that a family who made the visit to the museum with us first stopped at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry the day prior to arriving in Kentucky. Without dissent, their carload of teenagers found the CreationMuseum more to their liking. My own four children, ranging in age from nine to eighteen, had no difficulty keeping engaged. Although the youngest was running out of steam after five full hours, he was not running out of interest.
If you go only looking for dinosaurs you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for information on evolution, or intelligent design, you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for persuasive evidence for the Earth’s young age, and how God created the universe in six days, you will not be disappointed. But if you go - expect a lot more, for it offers far more than just entertainment, bones and fossils.
Ken Ham has been known to call dinosaurs “missionary lizards.” By this he means dinosaurs, when presented from a correct Biblical perspective, can be tools for the Gospel. For anyone who has had the privilege to hear Ken Ham speak in person, you know that one of his gifts is his ability to make his teaching appeal across all age groups. Following suit, the museum has the ability to speak to anyone who visits.
If you are already a Christian, you will either be elated or challenged by the clarion call to trust in the authority of the Bible from the very first verse. As for agnostics, atheists, or skeptics, of any variety, they will be challenged to believe in the God of all creation who so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that they too might have eternal life.
Such is the real design behind the museum's displays. They are meant to confront the visitor with the overwhelming evidence for God as our creator and redeemer.

My 49th birthday was October 6, and as a birthday present to myself (with my wife's encouragement) I worked overtime all during September so we could take a trip to the Creation Museum in Petersburg, KY. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. But I wish to comment on one thing in particular.
Prior to our trip I had mentioned to my wife how looking out over the horizon on mountain climbing trips as a child, made me realize just how big the world is and how small I am. It impressed on me the enormous, mind-boggling power of God. She responded she'd never had such an experience - but at the Creation Museum she did.
The first exhibit we went to see was the Planetarium. The show was high-tech, scientifically accurate and stunning in its presentation of the sheer size of God's created universe. As we walked out I noticed tears in my wife's eyes. I asked her about it and she said she'd just had the same kind of experience I'd had in the mountains as a child.
The rest of the museum was equally high quality but I strongly urge everyone to visit the Planetarium first; it sets the stage for everything that follows.
Kudos to Ken Ham and his staff for creating (pun intended) a wonderful tribute to God and His awesome power! Click here to reply to this post

Thanks for the good report Russ. My wife and I are leaving next week to go to the museum. I can't think of a better way to spend a week's vacation than to travel there and enjoy an encouraging and challenging time, reviewing the wonders of God's creation and redemption. I've been looking forward to it for some time and your review of your time there has whetted my appetite even more. Click here to reply to this post

Anyone would be hard pressed to find a person who has done more harm to the cause of The One and Only Lord Jesus Christ than the Pope who put Galileo in prison. He did not believe the Bible that said to regard your brother over yourself. He took one scripture about the four corners of the earth and said that the earth was flat and the earth was the center of our solar system. The pope did not act in humility but arrogance to challenge a man who had made a lifelong study of the Book of nature that God wrote. The pope had not studied this Book of creation at all and it was arrogant to challenge a man who had studied it. The same is true of many people who claim The Lord Jesus as their savior today. They have made little study of the Book of creation and want to have an opinion of it over people who have made a lifelong study of it. It is a extreme disservice to the Truth to include any lie as part of the Truth. To say that men walked with Dinosaurs is against all the facts that God Almighty has left for us to see. It takes a person who is blinded by prejudice or the IQ of an idiot to think such a thing. They DO NOT BELIEVE THE BIBLE. Anyone who studies the Bible while asking the Holy Spirit for sight will see that there is NO END TO THE 7th DAY. God entered his rest from creating on the 7th day. In the whole rest of the Bible it is clear God is still in His rest. We are still in the 7th day. When this age is over and Jesus Christ returns the 8th day will start or a new beginning. We are still in the 7th day. The 1st day says the earth was without form so the 1st day could not be an earth day. God Almighty says He created the heavens and the earth in the 1st day. The sun and the moon are part of the heavens so were created in the 1st day. Also plants brought forth seed after their kind, and what kind of plants do we have now. Plants that we have now came from the plants that the earth brought forth on the 3rd day. Plants need the light of the sun and do not sprout in 24 hours but take a long time to grow. A lot of people think they have to choose between the nonfactual or untrue doctrine of much of the church and science. To choose either is the way of falsehood. The Only Way of Truth is to humble oneself and ask Him to take your life and be the King of kings of your life. Then ask Him to lead you into all Truth. Anyone who trust in men will be led into false teachings. I did not learn this from science or preachers but the Holy Spirit showed me the answers to any question that I have asked of Him. Trust in God Almighty and live. Lou Click here to reply to this post

You tell us to defer to those who have made a lifelong study of the book of nature (regardless of whether they acknowledge the Book of God). Then you tell us that anyone who places their trust in men will be led into false teachings. Then you argue that you have all the right answers because the Holy Spirit bypasses Scripture to speak directly to you. What a megalomaniacal mess you have given us. Click here to reply to this post

I demonstrated how your argument self-refutes, it is full of contradiction. Hurts, I know. There is no refutation like a self-refutation. Further, you have not argued from Scripture, you have blatantly contradicted Scripture. You elevate reason over God's word and justify this maneuver by claiming that the Holy Spirit speaks directly to you. You force Scripture to conform to man's understanding of nature, you do not require man's understanding of nature to conform to Scripture. Like Aquinas, you divide nature and grace. You presuppose that man can understand nature with his unaided reason. Then, armed with man's understanding, you turn to God to tell him what his word can and cannot mean. You and I depart at that point. Also, and ironically, Aristotle, that great man of the book of nature, was the origin of geocentricism, not the Bible. The error of the Pope is that he read pagan naturalism into the Bible. You are the Pope. You are the one placing your trust in fallen man's reason and reading it into the Bible. What God says in Gen. 1 and 2 is true. Whether I can presently reconcile God's truth with my understanding is irrelevant to the question of truth. If my understanding differs from Scripture what needs to change is my understanding. You seek to change God's word. That is megalomaniacal. Click here to reply to this post

To answer your question, I think any thing stated as truth that is not true is harmful. the scriptures themselves say that they 7th day is still upon us. God is still in His rest. Plus there is a morning but no evening given for the 7th day. The second coming of the Lord will be the beginning of the 8th day. The Bible does NOT STATE THE SIX DAYS OF CREATION WERE EARTH DAYS. That is an assumption made by some that brings harm to the church of the Lord Jesus the same as the pope assuming that the earth was flat because of a scripture of " the four corners of the earth". Neither does Scripture say they were each ages lasting millions of years. But, just because Scripture does not answer the question directly does not mean that it does not answer the question indirectly. We must let Scripture interpret Scripture. You are unwilling to do this. You have closed your mind to the possibility that these are earth days because this conclusion puts the church in conflict with modern science. And, as you put it, nothing does more harm to the cause of Christ. I disagree. Nothing does more harm to the cause of Christ than man's assertion of his autonomy, placing his understanding above God's word. I personally am not dogmatic over 24 hour days versus day ages. But, I am dogmatic when it comes to elevating man's reason over God's word. This is what you are doing. This is why I am criticizing you. Click here to reply to this post
