As our society moves into a global mindset, we move farther away from the Constitutional principles America was founded upon. As time goes by with a lack of Judeo Christian principles being sown into each generation, the American founding principles of liberty become less a part of our collective “DNA”. We are then more susceptible to the infiltration of principles that are contrary to those of liberty. This leads us to a place of great vulnerability as a Nation. One of the most important quotes from George Washington concerns his view of government. He said, “Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, like fire it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”
This is the reason that the founders wrote the Constitution as they did. They knew how corrupt government becomes because they understood history, and human nature, and thus desired that government be as small as possible. We have seen our own government grow to a point never desired by our founders. The centralized power of the federal government blazingly shows disregard for the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution which states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
The central power mindset is now the view of most Americans who do not understand what history teaches us about tyranny. The lie of central power being the solution to problems has been accepted by most of the population. We saw just how inept big government agencies are from the central power response to the Katrina disaster. The Homeland Security chief’s answer to the Katrina debacle was the text book government answer. Hire more people, spend more money, and increase the size of the agency’s central power. The truth of historical teaching makes it clear that one must never put his trust in the government for his own safety, nor the safety of his family. It is not in the nature of government to regard its citizens as more important than its self. This is the reason our Bill of Rights includes the Second Amendment right of citizens to bear arms. The liberals would have you believe that the purpose of the Second Amendment was so that we could hunt. (They always say when questioned about their desire for gun control that they are not trying to take away your hunting rifle.) The truth is that our founders wanted the people to have a way to defend themselves from the government if it should usurp authority over the citizens of this great country. They knew that the power rests in the hands of those who control the weapons. It is estimated that only about ten percent of the people were actual members of the Communist Party in the former Soviet Union. Guess what group controlled the weapons? It was the ten percent who used armed intimidation to control the ninety percent who had no way of organizing a defense against them. The right to bear arms is essential to liberty. There can be no liberty if citizens do not have a way to resist tyranny. This is why I am against any registration of personal fire arms!!! The government must not have the ability to confiscate. Registration gives them that ability.
Now we see the United Nations working to impose world gun control. Oh, how they cloak it in such lofty terms of concern for innocent people. What a deception this is! They are intent on the ultimate centralized power of world government. Consider the corrupt former French President, Jacques Chirac, he called for a global tax on individual firearms purchases when he said, "Perhaps a tax on the sale of weapons would be quite justified; I'm very much in favor of studying this proposal.” (This according to CNSNews.com)
In a speech at the annual meeting of the G8, Brazil's President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, pushed the same position of having a tax on arms so the world's wealthiest nations could fund efforts to eliminate world hunger. (This is according to Bloomberg News)
Consider the following quotes taken directly from the United Nations document, “Peace and Security Through Disarmament: U.N. Gun Registration and Tracking Plan of Action”
“To ensure that henceforth licensed manufacturers apply an appropriate and reliable marking on each small arm and light weapon as an integral part of the production process. This marking should be unique and should identify the country of manufacture and also provide information that enables the national authorities of that country to identify the manufacturer and serial number so that the authorities concerned can identify and trace each weapon.”
“To adopt where they do not exist and enforce, all the necessary measures to prevent the manufacture, stockpiling, transfer and possession of any unmarked or inadequately marked small arms and light weapons.”
“To ensure that comprehensive and accurate records are kept for as long as possible on the manufacture, holding and transfer of small arms and light weapons under their jurisdiction. These records should be organized and maintained in such a way as to ensure that accurate information can be promptly retrieved and collated by competent national authorities.”
“To ensure responsibility for all small arms and light weapons held and issued by the State and effective measures for tracing such weapons.”
“To assess applications for export authorizations according to strict national regulations and procedures that cover all small arms and light weapons and are consistent with the existing responsibilities of States under relevant international law, taking into account in particular the risk of diversion of these weapons into the illegal trade. Likewise, to establish or maintain an effective national system of export and import licensing or authorization, as well as measures on international transit, for the transfer of all small arms and light weapons, with a view to combating the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons.”
“To develop and implement, including in conflict and post-conflict situations, public awareness and confidence building programs on the problems and consequences of the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects, including, where appropriate, the public destruction of surplus weapons and the voluntary surrender of small arms and light weapons, if possible, in cooperation with civil society and non-governmental organizations, with a view to eradicating the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons.”
“To make public national laws, regulations and procedures that impact on the prevention, combating and eradicating of the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects and to submit, on a voluntary basis, to relevant regional and international organizations and in accordance with their national practices, information on, inter alia, (a) small arms and light weapons confiscated or destroyed within their jurisdiction; and (b) other relevant information such as illicit trade routes and techniques of acquisition that can contribute to the eradication of the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects.”
“To establish or designate, as appropriate, a point of contact within sub regional and regional organizations to act as liaison on matters relating to the implementation of the Programme of Action.”
“States are encouraged to consider international cooperation and assistance to examine technologies that would improve the tracing and detection of illicit trade in small arms and light weapons, as well as measures to facilitate the transfer of such technologies.”
“Also encourage all initiatives to mobilize resources and expertise to promote the implementation of the Programme of Action and to provide assistance to States in their implementation of the Programme of Action.”
(All bold and underlining are mine)
This is from their document and just some of what they want. They want to implement world gun control based on who they think should have guns. Ultimately, they want no personal possession of guns; in fact, they desire the ability to trace every weapon! They say for the purpose of “illicit arms trading.” What is their definition of illicit? They want to have U.N. governing oversight authority in all countries. They want to have the ability to trace “all small arms” and increase “technologies that would improve the tracing.” This gives them the power to confiscate. Why should we give them any power at all? They were not elected by us. They are not part of our Constitutional Republic. The founders wanted Tenth Amendment protection against our central United States federal government. Are we to believe they wanted us to be under international government? NO WAY! The United Nations is made up of global thinkers that see themselves as the elite. They have as their ultimate goal the establishment of one global government. Who do you think will have the guns if they have their way and the one world government is established? Do you believe that they would allow average people to have guns? They think of themselves as higher than the average person. They will have the guns and you will only have a stick to defend your family!
They feel that human reason and goodness will prevail if only there is more government regulation on a global scale. How deceived they are by their own arrogant view of human nature! A man who cannot see the powerful deception of human nature is destined for failure in the end. The end of unbridled human nature is licentious corrupt power. The power of a man, who deems himself purposely, or by self-deceit to be his own god, will ultimately lead to his undoing and the undoing of those he usurps authority over.
The personality of centralized power is always the same, and true of all cultures. Central power always seeks to expand to the detriment of those it seizes authority over. There can be no greater deterrent to the abuse of centralized power than an armed citizenry. Every person has certain rights that will always be attacked by tyrannical forces. Simply put, each person must learn how to defend himself, and have the arms necessary for resistance of central tyranny!
Since all of history proclaims the clear truth of central power being the basis for tyranny, is it not logical to resist its formation? It is not logical to stand up and speak out against what we know is the end result of such flawed thinking? The president takes an oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. With all the unconstitutional things that this government has been and is doing, one has to wonder what they mean by the oath they take. I would say that anyone who understands history and the true nature of power will stand with me and others who are speaking out! We must resist the United Nations. It is a clear and present danger to liberty. It is illegitimate and the Constitution gives no right to our government to be under any authority other than “WE THE PEOPLE”!!!!

I think it is sad when we even have to discuss this story as I learned respect for guns that people do not have today. I remember when you could put a hunting rifle in your truck and no one would even touch it because we had respect for others and their property. I guess honestly those days are gone and so now we trust our government to make our regulations when they truly do not know what is right or wrong. I believe all who want to own guns and have the proper respect for them have the right to own them. It is sad to say that there are no easy answers to this problem of owning guns. I believe that with many problems today that is a matter of the heart and until we got our minds and hearts back on GOD we are going to have this problem. I plan to defend myself against all enemies foreign and domestic and even those who cross my threshold uninvited who plan to do harm to my family will meet GOD face to face if I can do anyting in my power to make it so. It does seem very sad that with all the laws enacted we seem to have forgotten the problem and that is that the bad guys keep finding ways to get guns yet we law abidding citizens go through the ringer to own a gun legally. I belong to the NRA and am proud of it but what you all do not see is that banning guns is only the tip of the iceburg. In the end they will regulate this country into non-existence. We have enough gun laws on the books and even those laws are not being enforced so what more can you do but protect yourself. Click here to reply to this post

Almost forgot, most of the article talked about control of the ILLEGAL gun sales and tracking legal sales. I ask what good has come with the flood of illegal weapons to third world countries? Has it made them safer ? Helped with socail problems ? Maybe we need to give more weapons to Iraq's, and I would hate to see Iran's right to sell arms controlled.
As far as armed citizens protecting us from the gov't...forget it I'll bet a squad of US Army soilders and a couple of helecopters or an A-1 tank could take out the entire Missouri miltia in an hour or two. After the first shot they would run home drink beer, and watch football. Click here to reply to this post
I found it interesting that there are instances where armed civilians have harrased invading armies to the point that the armies left the country and decided that the daily casualties accrued were not worth the fight. Isn't it amazing that we are basically facing the same situation in Iraq. I agree that some are now receiving better trainning due to these terrorist trainning camps set up by Bin Ladden and other terrorist groups. Do not underestimate a devoted man and his gun. By the way the M1A1 tank has its limitations and cannot go into high country where one man or several men can go. If you are also referring to the helicopters we have in our arsenal they can be shot down very easily so I believe in armed civilians. I know that hunters have rifles that actually have longer range accuracy than some military wepons. So I still believe that civilians pushed into a corner can throw down a good fight. Illeagal weapons cannot be controlled so the government will exert its efforts on the law abiding. You love to use Iraq as an example. All too often, our troops are disarming the innocent and allowing the bad guys to kill them without resistence.
When the courts ruled that any firearm surrendered in a gun buyback or amnesty turn in program cannot be used as evidence in a criminal case because it would violate the Constitutions gurantee against self incrimination, they only accepted legal weapons and would hand the criminal back his gun. If they took it, that weapon was no longer able to be used as evidence.
Government disarmament programs always disarm the innocent and excuse the guilty. Click here to reply to this post

Oh, what a lovely article. I can see the headlines now. CHRISTAINS HAND OUT GUNS AT CHURCH PICNIC or how about JESUS SAYS TO ALWAYS CARRY THE CORRECT MACHINE GUN FOR THE JOB.
Using the logic of this article we could end violence and have a better country if we just gave everyone a hand gun. Just think we would most likely save enough on police and prison costs to pay for the program. We could give them to every kid the day they graduates from hig school. I'm sure that would make the inner city much safer.
By the way I am a gun owner. 2 shotguns, 2 rifles including an assualt rifle, 2 handguns. Click here to reply to this post
I have yet to heqar of any Church even considering such a move but I do know of Churches who call upon it's members to turn in thier firearms. Somhow, calling upon the innocent to disarm while forgiving the criminals and even going so far as to condem those who refuse to follow the example of Lott doesn't sound right.

There is a saying "An armed society is a polite society" Every shooting incident we have had to date consisted of one armed assailant mowing down unarmed "Serfs" sometimes by the dozens. When was the last time you heard of a gun club shooting?
While handing out guns to everybody might not be the answer, calling upon the innocent to disarm while crime is rampant isn't either. Click here to reply to this post

Being a 26 year veteran and an avid firearms enthusiast, I would be the last to support public disarmament. The UN and even our own Law Enforcement angencies appear to be more intent on disarming the innocent than the guilty. During the LA riots, several National Guardsman resigned from the Guard in disgust when they were told their mission was to protect the looters from armed vigilantes. Many stores were not looted until the Guard disarmed their owners. In New Orleans, once again, the Police were more intent on disrming the innocent rather than hauling in the guilty.
This however is where we part company. Christ is not in the 2nd Amendment business.
He did make a reference to a man being prepared to fight if he knew when a thief was comming and also noted that nobody can pillage the house of a strong man but must first bind him (Public disarmament?)
Niether are we however commanded to arm ourselves with physical weapons. While I myself would use whatever force is needed to protect my family and others, it is with the understanding that "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of this Earth" It is not so much that I would advocate everybody to be armed but more so that I would refuse to condem one who used deadly force with "Failure to turn the other cheek". Finally, the entire essence of being armed is about not being a victim. Gun owners crying about thier gun rights in the same manner liberals cry for their right to sin doesn't seen to cut it.
What we need is a viable alternative to increased regulation leading to public disarmament. I call it
"Firearms discpline" Enforce the 2nd Amendment as it is written. Allow fellow gun owners to discipline criminals and reckless people under the UCMJ. Anyone who bears arms under alternative colors should be declared an enemy combatant and detained indefinately or until his gang / militia / organization formally surrenders. If all else fails, crying like a liberal victim is not the answer. To steal a line from King Leonitas in the film 300.

It is unforunate that "The lie of central power being the solution to problems has been accepted by most of the population." In many cases, the problems have been prefabricated by government so they would have a "crisis" to solve. Especially in recent years, the tendency of most US citizens has been to delegate what would otherwise be personal or family responsibilities over to government, while they busy themselves seeking increased wealth. This delegation has come in the way of day care centers, public and private schooling, and increased government services of all kinds. Many Christians have even passed the buck to pastors and other Scriptural leaders in lieu of spending time with their Savior on a day to day basis. As Christians, how can we possibly believe that there is some security to having centralized leadership, when we are told that the only real security we can have is Jesus Christ? WE THE PEOPLE of this United States have slowly let our sovereignty slip away, rationalizing one exscuse on top of another. Starting from the top down, we need to extricate ourselves from the United Nations. We must demand accountability for any unconstitutional behavior on the part of elected representatives, which actually is tantamount to treason. This would include policies of deficit spending. Here is a simplistic story of how it is with the United States: There were a group of lazy barbarians who had little interest in work. Every so often they would ride into town to steal food, clothing, etc., then ride back out. They would live off the stolen loot until it was gone, then ride back into town again. One time when the barbarians were planning their attack, one complained, "You know, all this riding in and out of town fighting with people is beginning to feel like work. There has got to be a better way." Then one of the barbarians exclaimed, "I've got it. Let's just ride into town and stay. We can put up a building in the middle of town and call it city hall or the state capitol, and we'll use it as a hangout. We'll take baths and shave and dress up in fine clothes like respectable businessmen. Then we'll levy something we can call a tax. We'll tell the people that as long as they pay this tax regularly, we won't punish them." Another barbarian suggested that they could use some of the tax money to provide a few services for streets, schools, and courts, so the people would feel like they are getting something for their money. Yet another barbarian spoke up: "There are other gangs in this area. When they see how docile our taxpayers have become, they will probably try to ride in and take over. We will need to provide police and an army, to protect what is ours. The taxpayers will love it--they will think that we are doing it for them." George Cancilla Click here to reply to this post
