The terrible news out of Minneapolis about the collapse of a crowded bridge was only the latest news story to document the seriously decaying state of America’s infrastructure. Underneath the ground we live on and drive on is the structure that enables all Americans to go about their business with the assurance of clean water, safe highways, sanitation and so forth. A recent story from USA Today detailed the struggle in American cities to pay for the overhauls necessary for things like new highways, bridges, and steam pipes that are quickly failing. The explosion of a steam pipe in New York that killed and injured several recently is yet another example of this. We’ve been living in a sort of fool’s paradise, going about our lives, assuming that somebody is taking care of it all. Until the bridge underneath you collapses in rush hour.
In so many ways, the crisis of America’s physical infrastructure mirrors that of its moral infrastructure. The right-side-up worldview inherited from the Christian influence upon our nation's founders is in pieces. The foundations are trembling. While all kinds of other things distracted us, the solid footing under our feet as a nation has been rotting away, one bit at a time. A song from a popular musical from the 1930’s told us that everything you might have heard about the Bible and all that God stuff , well, “it ain’t necessarily so.” Generations later, this mentality is only now bearing its deadly fruit.
Americans have rejected that a moral foundation rooted on God and the Bible is necessary for a nation to prosper. Sexual anarchy is now promoted as normal and healthy to children in our tax funded schools. Hedonism and gluttony are now a routine part of the middle class lifestyle. Tens of millions of humans have been murdered in the womb with official government sanction and billions are spent on pornography and filth on television and in the movies. With each passing day, another bit of the moral infrastructure cracks a little more. We are overrun with illegal immigrants who uninterested in assimilating with and contributing to our nation, while those who lawfully apply have a difficult time getting in. Nobody seems capable of stopping the flood. Crack. China seems to now own America, with their cheap and often toxic goods flooding the market. Crack. American jobs are now being sent to third world countries. Crack. The Christian churches that once served as salt and light by spreading the Gospel far and wide have become YMCA-style social clubs, promoting the finding of one’s “best life now” or “purpose” rather than proclaiming Christ crucified, the only hope for the nation and the world. Crack. Worse still, some churches and pastors are actually contributing to the endemic moral squalor of the nation. These are pastors who are consumed with Hollywood and sensual gratification at the expense of the true Gospel. They proudly fill their blogs with their own shame and dare anyone to disagree with them. No wonder the nation's moral infrastructure is cracking.
So what do we do as Christian believers in the midst of this decay? We need to make sure our feet are on something that will not crumble, even if everything else around us does. When the huge tsunami hit in Asia several years ago, the only people on the beach who survived were those who had climbed higher and had clung to rocks there. As our nation’s moral and spiritual infrastructure heaves, just like in the terrible video that was captured of the falling bridge, may we place our feet on the solid rock of our Lord Jesus Christ. When our feet our secure, we then must call as many others as we can to the safety found in Jesus. He alone is sure.

Amen, and Amen!!!! If things continue as they are going, all true believers will be in concentration camps in the next decade!!! It is a shame and a tragedy that we as a nation are in complete rebellion against the Lord of All!!!
Keep up the good work!

Ingrid your article has some very good points in it the most important is as citizens of the Kingdom of God we need to root our faith in Christ not America. A few problems I have with your view are this, it seems that you equate every american problem like immigration and jobs going to third world countries as a christain problem???? Never once did I hear you mention poverty I fail to see how immigration and Nafta are tops on your list of problems that we as Christians need to address. I sense a theme with this article and others you have written, I may be wrong. You and other Christians would like to call us a christian nation because thats what our four fathers intended us to be. Well if thats the case when were we ever a Christain nation???? These four fathers you speak of who were so "rooted in Biblical principle" were they being a Christain nation when they stood by and watched or participated in millions of African slaves being brought to this country illegally and by the way our country was built on the sweat and blood of the backs of those african slaves not these morally rightous christain four farthers you mentioned in your article. Were our four fathers who were so rooted in biblical principle a christain nation when they stood by and watched or participated in millions of Native Americans being slaughtered and lied to and having every treaty with them broken, but then making it ok because they put a label on the murder "the manefest destiny" what a joke. Ingrid here is the point I'm trying to make America now and never was a Christain nation we aren't the city set a top the hill sitting in Gods light America is part of the kingdom of the world so stop making every political issue like Nafta and immigration a "christain issue" we should never associate something as ugly and unambiguos as politics with soething as beutiful as Christianity. Ingrid: Good stuff as usual from you, thank you. I think a lot about the American church because our lathargic ways frustrate me. It seems that Americans are mostly reactionary people, no one wants to upset harmany until it is blatently obvious that the status quo has changed. This is why morals are corrupt, bridges are decrepted, gov't is out of control, immigration has been a joke for decades, etc. I'm sorry to say but there has to be a couple more 9-11's for people to get their head's on straight and turn to God, if only to regain their comfort and status quo again. It is easier for a camel to go thru the eye of a needle than for America to enter the kingdom of God. Click here to reply to this post

Right on. One of the things that I believe is happening is that we are created with a need for God. As a society we are abandoning God and he must be replaced and we are attempting to replace him with government. As a consequence government is spending billions, if not trillions, on social welfare programs to pay for our sin and allow us to continue in that sin and not spending funds on the things which government should spend money on. A result is that we are broke because you cannot spend enough to avoid consequences of violating God's standard. Click here to reply to this post

Thank you Ingrid, for your accurate description of the state of affairs here in the USA. It is not presumptious to assume that decaying moral infrastructure is responsible for the large "cracks" in the rest of our infrastructure. We are witnessing God's judgment on a nation of people, which is prophesied to happen in the Bible. If man uses his educated vain imaginations to try to fix these worldly problems, without first giving God the glory for them; then man can expect to fail. God judges both individuals and nations. We who are professing Christianity need to stop the flim flam worship that we so often participate in, and begin to worship Jesus in Spirit and Truth. George Cancilla Click here to reply to this post
