Why 19 Million Christians Are Awakening From Their Slumber

Why 19 Million Christians Are Awakening From Their Slumber

By Janet Folger

The homosexual lobby and those in power in the U.S. House of Representatives made a mistake. They made a strategic error that cost them greatly.

Oh, don't get me wrong; the liberal Democrats did a good job (teaming up with the media) convincing 19 million Christians to stay home last November. They did a good job pretending that stupid move would send some kind of "message" to Congress. All it did was hand the reigns of power to people who hate us and want to outlaw our beliefs. Their deception worked. But what didn't work is ... their pride. What they don't know is that pride isn't a parade; rather, pride goeth before a fall.

One couldn't miss the arrogance of those in power at the congressional hearing on hate crimes. John Conyers, Sheila Jackson Lee and their cohorts treated witnesses like Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute and those who stood for freedom of speech with disdain. The Democrats didn't even pretend to run things in an even-handed way. Stacking their witnesses while limiting ours, they grandstanded their agenda, gavel in hand. They had the votes. They had the power. And they were going to flaunt it. Color me surprised.

But then Conyers and his buddies went too far. They had to show Christians who oppose the homosexual agenda just who was in charge and shove it in our faces. And so the House scheduled their vote on H.R. 1592 – the bill that promises to criminalize Christianity – on the National Day of Prayer.

Bad move.

Congress chose to flaunt their "power" on a day when 60 thousand prayer meetings were taking place all around the country all day long – when hundreds of thousands of people were appealing to the power that trumps them and their scheduled vote.

Oh, they had their vote, all right. The "thought crimes" bill passed in the U.S. House last Thursday by 237-180. But that was the same day we were given the promise of a presidential veto. The pro-family movement had been asking the president for that promise for more than six years. And last Thursday, on the National Day of Prayer, we got it. Thank you, God. Thank you, President Bush. And thank you, Congress, for your scheduling choice.

Want to know a secret? It's all starting to backfire. Their deafening arrogance is loud enough to rouse those 19 million Christians from their slumber. The radical agenda that threatens our freedoms isn't exactly the "statement" Christians were hoping for when they stayed home on Election Day. The congressional consequences of our sin of omission are becoming clearer.

Pride is the thing God hates the most. It's what got Satan kicked out of heaven. But not only does God hate it, the American people hate it, too. And I predict it will be what gets this Congress kicked out of power.

But, while we're talking strategy, now is exactly the right time to step up the pressure in the Senate. To tell them, despite the veto promise, we're going to hold you accountable for your votes. We're going to expose what you are doing with this power. And we're going to proactively take back ground.

And while we're at it, we might as well have some fun. They want to handcuff pastors and those of us who speak biblical truth? Let's help them out by sending handcuffs!

Faith2Action has once again teamed up with the Christian Interactive Network to make sending a message to the Senate against "hate crimes" easy, effective and fun. Through StopHateCrimesNow.com, you can send an individualized message to your U.S. senators that they cannot miss. It's a mug shot and a pair of handcuffs so believers can tell them: "Don't make me a criminal!"

Imagine thousands of handcuffs hitting the Senate offices, from people they represent not wanting to be jailed for speaking their beliefs. Then you can e-mail everyone on your list with the link to StopHateCrimesNow.com to expose the Democrats' arresting agenda.

Here's our advantage. Like our founders, we believe what the Bible says, and all the strategy contained in it – including that little gem in Proverbs 16:18: "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."

So my advice to those in control of Congress? Just keep on doing what you're doing, because pride isn't a parade; it's what comes before "destruction" and a great big "fall." My advice to the rest of us? Cuff the agenda, resist the arrest and set yourself free. Take back the ground we lost and teach those who hate us a lesson in humility.

Janet, Greetings to you in Jesus our Messiah. I have read your book " Criminalization of Christianity", and it was excellent. But, I have to disagree with you on the politicial process as means of changing things. Jesus never command us to be involved in politics, but to be "Salt and Light". Both republician and democratic parties have flaws, and to the point that you can't tell the difference the two. I would say the best bet is a third party, the Constitutional Party. But also to add to that it isn't a sin to be involved in politics. We ,as Chrsitians, are just passing thru, waiting for our Bridegroom to sweep us away. I think our best bet is to cry "Maranatha". Come Lord Jesus!

I want to be careful how I reply to Age 28 TX, because I want to speak the truth in love. I am glad that you say that "it isn't a sin to be involved in politics." I agree. However, when you say that you can't tell the difference between the Republicans and the Democrats, you are repeating a Dave Hunt Big Lie. Which party has senators who will let a president choose pro-life judges? The GOP. Which party has more members who OPPOSE the militant gay agenda, Islamofascism, pornography, or the modern-day slave trade? The GOP. The Constitution party may offer a better presidential candidate in 2008, but they won't have nearly enough candidates for the thousands of other Congressional, state and local offices! There may also be occasional opportunities to in certain primaries to nominate pro-life Democrats, as long as we get out and vote instead of sitting on our "left behinds!" I also agree with you that we Christians are just passing thru until our Bridegroom sweeps us away. However, we all need to re-read Matthew 25:31-46, II Thessalonians 3:5-16, and several other Bible passages to remind us of what we Christians should do while we are "passing thru." We should NOT be giving more money to filthy rich Rapture Gnostics such as Hunt, Hal "4 wives" Lindsey, Tim LaHaye, John Hagee, or Creflo Dollar. Instead, we should treat them like false prophets or Roman Empire Tax Collectors!

I appreciated the reply given to the 28 year old Texas resident about how involvement in politics is not sinful. I also appreciated the comparisons between the Constitutional and Republican parties. My heart sunk when I read the out of hand dismissal of several gospel ministers as false prophets. Top of the heart rending list is calling Hal Lindsey "Hal (four wives) Lindsey. This is so far removed from the the first sentence in the answer in which the call to carefulness and love was invoked. Perhaps love was shown to the Texas resident but not a drop was found for Lindsey and others. I fear the unbridled scathing of those ministers may have undone any wise are sage information that was afforded in the answer to to 28yr Texan. The dispute or debate about when the rapture takes place is legitimate. The question oh whether there is a rapture is not up for question, it is the scripture. I dont know what has happened to Mt 9:39f or to the extra care we should take with anyone who proclaims the same gospel as we do. Banging heads with cults, pseudo Christian religions and abberations of the true gospel is all that some Christians seem to be involved with. This is important but indisciminate axe weilding leads to collateral damage. I feel strongly that some names in your list got cut badly but not fairly. But the damage is already done, aand even if you should stand sure in your assesments the only question remaining is wee you called to devour these people. I have reservations about some of the doctrines put forth by some in your list. What keeps me from indiscrimanently scathing leaders and ministers is first that I was never given such a calling. Under "with what measure you mete" I hear the warning not to play the Sheriff in the Kingdom of God. Also I fear that with a weak brother or one new in the faith I may cause an offense or at the least create confusion in the babe in Christ. I'm not crying "judge not" and hiding behind that, I am saying that I strongly disagree that all those mentioned by name in your article are false prophets. I invoke Galations 5:15 as reason not to stop looking for and exposing errors but to tread carefully before dismissing a half dozen ministers into the trash heap with the wave of the hand. Will the 19 Million Christians get off of their "left behinds?"
Posted On: 05/17/07 08:35:45 PM Age 47, MO
As a Christian who has stayed awake, I hope that Janet Folger is right. Unfortunately, as I still keep hearing others claim to have a special knowledge of the time period when the Rapture will happen! Christians who are obsessed with the Rapture either don't vote at all, or they make bad choices. (Remember how so many Rapture-obsessive Christians voted for Ross Perot, resulting in 8 years of Clinton?)

Janet makes some good points but she appears to be part of the problem. We do not need more talking heads with bios as long as "War and Peace." Self-promoting politicos have a serious dislike for talking against the status quo. The Bible says we will not reclaim America by man's efforts. We need more commentators who teach people how to analize the issues, not define the issues for us. We have too many like Jerry Falwell, who I greatly respected, but who spoke the truth but refused to stand up against those neo-cons who choose to manipulate the truth. We do not need a 'which state am I in today' Romney, nor a 'government can be the answer as long as it is my government' Gingrich, and the others without a true conservative and constitutional backbone. As much as I agree with the Constitution Party, they are full of self-promoters too. Self-promoter Chuck Baldwin would do well to back out of the light before he alienates to many voters. He is right-on 25 percent of the time. It is the other 75 percent that scares me. Even here in Red State Idaho, a true Republican or conservative is hard to find.

I'm having a lot of trouble in continuing to consider myself a Republican. It has nothing to do with the constant media barrage of attacks upon conservatives and Republicans, alike, but more to do with the current offerings of candidates for nomination in the GOP. The three that I do prefer have no chance of receiving the nod from the Republican base, and the other, more "popular" seekers cannot even be considered truly Republican, much less, conservative. I find myself leaning more to the Constitution Party, due to its strong support of the Constitution and its stance on maintaining what this country was founded upon. It has become the third-largest political party, and is growing rapidly with disenchanted Christian conservatives who are sick of being lied to by those who claim to be Christian in the GOP, yet show few good fruits. Understanding that a split in the Republican base of voters can mean the Democrats will win in '08, I still cannot bring myself to support those who are more than ready to give up our God-given rights and freedoms in an effort to temporarily say, "I'm the President of the United States." The Constitution Party. Check them out...Is this the way we should go?

Great article and inspiring! I love it BUT... I am frustrated. I don't even have $20 to spare to send. I am on a tight limited income as someone who's disabled and it is very frustrating when I get excited about an article like this only to click on the link and read a message to send MONEY (of all things)! I receive other letters from people/agencies like Janet who offer more than just a sales pitch. At least they provide suggested draft letters and sometimes even Congress email addresses which by clicking on the link, goes directly to them. I'm not asking for all of that but am saying that it would help to have an idea of what could constitute an effective letter - not just an idea to send handcuffs. Please, there are many of us who want to follow through, but you, Janet are aware of these items much more clearly than even those of us who follow with great interest. We could use your help with a suggested draft letter. It would mean a great deal. Thanks for hearing me out.

The Republicans brought it on themselves
Posted On: 05/16/07 10:42:33 AM Age 27, FL
Janet, Good to hear from you again - glad you're writing for WW. I think Christians definitely need to wake up and start voting - but I have another point for you. I don't think the Decmocrat-influenced media was the reason Christians stayed home. I think they stayed home because the Republicans failed. They failed to restrict government spending, they failed to keep us from foreign entaglements, they failed to honor the Constitution and they failed to protect the unborn in any meanigful way. We have two socialist parties in America. The Republicans and Democrats are both pushing us towards an Orwellian state. If the Christians REALLY woke up, they'd vote outside the box completely. For someone like Ron Paul - a Pro-Life, pro-Consitution, non-interventionist conservative. Just like the men who founded our nation. There's hardly a conservative Republican left. Whereas the Dems are "tax and spend," the Republicans are "spend and spend." Sickening! Anyhow - all the best!

Janet will never admit that the Republicans failed. She's a party member and Republican operative. She thinks the political process is important and meaningful. Most evangelical republicans put their hope and trust in the political system. They, like Janet, will never support anyone like Ron Paul.

I think it is wishful thinking that we will see much change in the United States Congress, irregardless of how many Christians wake up. Citizens need to more than just wake up. They need to wake up and busy themselves in the selection of candidates early in the process. The usual means that bring candidates to the forefront are the preening and conditioning that cause them to be all peas of the same pod. By the time the average citizen sees what choices they have, it is already too late. The choice is almost always between one elitist or another, and either way, for more government. Since we can't seem to control our representatives at the national level, perhaps we can have some control at the state level, and not allow stupid federal legislation into our states. This is not such a radical idea at a time when federal mandates are destroying the fabric of freedoms and economics of all Americans. George Cancilla

I satayed home las Novemeber because the GOP and their supporting evangelicals could only talk about their gospel of bombs & bullets. Furthermore, you can lament all you want about the homosexual agenda but when it comes to the likes of the adulterers like Newt Gingrich, Amy Grant, Michael English, Jim Baker, Jimmy Swaggert, and the blatent misconduct of many others, the GOP and their so called evangelicals are turning out to be the same drug addicted, sexually imoral, baby aborting homosexuals as their counterparts on the godless left. The Gospel does not stand or fall with the GOP and I will continue to vote "None of the above".
