Open Letter To President Bush

Open Letter To President Bush

by Phyllis Schlafly,

To: President George W. Bush, The White House, Washington, DC 20500, Dear Mr. President:

I am glad to see that you fired some U.S. Attorneys. But you missed one: U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, who prosecuted Border Guards Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean instead of a professional drug smuggler, and who prosecuted Texas Deputy Sheriff Gilmer Hernandez instead of a professional people smuggler.

Yes, you have the presidential prerogative to hire and fire U.S. Attorneys for any reason or for no reason. Any prosecutor has large discretion in whether to bring a case to trial or not, and the public has the right to know why he made that decision.

So much has come out since the Ramos and Compean trial which proves that the decision to criminally prosecute them was a gross miscarriage of justice. Their alleged violation, if true, deserved, at most, an administrative reprimand.

Ramos and Compean did not get a fair trial, and that's a terrible blot on your administration. It's hard to say which was more shocking: the withholding of exculpatory evidence or giving a professional drug smuggler immunity and other goodies to be the star witness against them and withholding evidence that would have discredited his credibility.

Keeping Ramos and Compean in solitary confinement instead of letting them go home pending their appeal shows a maliciousness that is unworthy of your administration.

Is it really the policy of your administration that our Border Guards are not permitted to use force against fleeing illegal aliens, but should allow them to flee across the border with impunity? If so, you should change the rules of engagement.

Is it really the policy of your administration that our border guards, in the act of apprehending a smuggler, may not use their weapons unless they first get permission from headquarters, and that they must assume that drug smugglers are not armed? If so, you should change the rules of engagement to protect our border guys who are risking their lives every day to protect us.

It's not enough to grant a pardon to Ramos and Compean. I hope you will publicly admit that they never should have been prosecuted for using their weapons in the course of doing their dangerous jobs.

I hope your administration will instruct U.S. Attorney Sutton to ask the court, first, that they be freed pending their appeals (so they won't be beaten up again by the criminal illegal aliens housed in the same prison), and second, that Sutton should ask the judge to vacate the convictions on the basis of prosecutorial illegalities in the first trial.

It's become pretty clear that the Ramos-Compean prosecution is not an anomaly but is part of a policy pattern. In the district adjacent to Johnny Sutton's, Border Patrol agent David Sipe was convicted in 2001 for using excessive force against an illegal alien coyote.

The U.S. prosecutor gave immunity to the Mexican criminal in exchange for his testimony and also withheld exculpatory evidence from Sipe. Because of this prosecutorial misconduct, the district court granted Sipe's motion for new trial, but incredibly, the U.S. prosecutor appealed that decision.

The Fifth Circuit upheld the order for a new trial and, instead of dropping the case, the U.S. Attorney forced Sipe to stand trial again. He was finally acquitted on Jan. 26, 2007.

Sipe is now free, after losing seven years of his life and all his savings, while the illegal alien coyote bought a ranch in Mexico with the $80,000 payoff he was given by the U.S. government.

Deputy Sheriff Gilmer Hernandez of Edwards County, Texas, was prosecuted by Johnny Sutton for a 2005 incident in which Hernandez allegedly used excessive force against a fleeing carload of illegal aliens. He was convicted on Dec. 1, 2006.

Sutton requested a prison term of seven years, but fortunately the judge sentenced him to only one year. Maybe that was a rebuke to Sutton.

We want to know if these unjust prosecutions were demanded by the Mexican government. You should make public the messages between your Justice Department and Mexico in regard to these cases.

We simply can't have a national policy of intimidating our border guards from arresting drug smugglers -- or even defending themselves against smugglers (who should be presumed to be armed and dangerous). We don't want Ramos and Compean to be the hallmark of your administration's border policy.

Respectfully, Phyllis Schlafly

Thank God Mrs. Schlafly wrote the President about this issue. When a nation turns from the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to serve other gods, God allowed their enemies to conquer them. We are dangerously close to this happening unless we once again turn back to the Lord to serve the true and living God.

I agree with the letter and want to know how to get the White House to respond to this mess. Age 29 in CA, stop taking the Lord's name and scripture in vain and explain what you are talking about, not make vague allegations without a shred of evidence. Let's all keep praying for our President and all leaders and especially for ALL victims of injustice.

Dear Phyllis Schlafly, I appreciate your expressed concerns regarding "illegal aliens" overrunning our nation and endangering its sovereignty, but I have some objective facts that you or anyone should consider before pre-judging. Jesus commands us to "judge righteously." Mrs. Schlafly claims the border patrol are somehow being inhibited from acting on illegal crossings of "illegal aliens" or drug trafficking. That claim couldn't be further from the truth. Everyone knows that after 9/11 congress gave Bush a free reign to do as he pleases to "protect us" from further terrorist attacks. So they use Mexico as their scapegoat to use military force directly via Marines, National Guard etc. by patrolling our borders against these "criminal illegal aliens." They've also armed our border patrol agents with the latest and the greatest of military weaponry to use against these dangerous future criminals. Now who are the vast majority of these "criminal illegal aliens?" They are your maid, your dishwasher, your cook, your babysitter, your gardener, your housekeeper, your waiter... yes... your servant. This escalation in force has also given border patrol agents, military personnel, land owners bordering Mexico, and racist hate organizations fuel to conduct their wickedness with little to no accountability for their actions. Murder and rape running rampant throughout, mostly unreported, perpetrated by all of these various elements with very, very little prosecution. So when a couple of agents get caught in the act, there's a major public outcry, without them realizing that the truth of the matter is MUCH WORSE than reported by the major media outlets, aka, FOX/ CNN. They're literally getting away with rape and murder, but I praise my God and Savior Jesus Christ who see's all things, and who will judge righteously all of these heinous crimes and "give each one according to their ways". Not only them that do the evil, but those that "support them" as well(Rom.1:32). That means all of you who support this article full of misleading allegations and misinformation. It's not too hard to find out the detailed facts of the brief summaries that I've given. Just google it, and you'll encounter a barrage of information, all of which is barely scratching the surface to what really goes on, on a daily basis. But praise be to God that He will judge all hypocrisy and evil doing with His Mighty Hand. Praise be to God!

You wrote, "They're literally getting away with rape and murder..." Who is the 'They' you're speaking of? And if we should turn a blind eye at the boarder issue, where should we stop? Should we have any laws or law enforcement at all? Why is that?

Age 29, you said, " Just google it." PLEASE, tell me exactly what to google to get this info you're talking about. This is the first I've heard that this is "misleading allegations and misinformation" as you put it. I would truly like to know what sources you are using, so please tell me what I should google. I also think you should know that the "servants" ( I assume you mean people here illegally) you refer to aren't MY servants. We are barely keeping our heads above the poverty line as my dear husband who has a BSME and an MBA can't find a decent job because they're being given to H1-B visa holders or outsourced to other countries. So I am always searching for the truth of these types of allegations, and I would like to see your sources so that I make use my God-given discernment to evaluate your information. Thanks in advance!

I agree with this letter completely. The letter that was in agreement at first turned out to be the opposite. I think that we are already under judgment by God.Thus, the flood across the border oh illigals.

I was reading the book 'Will' by G.Gordon Liddy recently and he made a point that caught my attention and rang true to my realistic view of the world as it is as opposed to what idealists would like it to be. His observation was that drug dealers are part of murderous organizations and bring death to others when they cross our border with drugs. As such, he felt that it is irresponsible for Federal agents (including Border Patrol), to not use deadly force against them. A dead drug dealer means the saving of dozens, perhaps hundreds of lives. So my only criticism of Ramos and Compean is poor shooting skills. If they had turned Aldrete-Davila into a little grease spot in the desert, they wouldn't be rotting in a lousy jail with geniune criminals. I do think they need to be pardoned like three months ago and given an A for intent, if perhaps a D or F for results. I don't want to hear any goody goody pacifism unless you happen to actually be a member of the Friends or Quakers, who - while I don't agree with them, respect their consistancy. I however, believe that the borders need to be enforced with military precision. Johnny Sutton and his employer are both frauds.

The fact is that Ramos, Compean, and Snipe were NOT caught in the act of any of the things you are suggesting. You are slandering their names and assassinating their characters with no proof whatever, something for which YOU will be held accountable. Infact you are passing a blanket accusation against the entire Border Patrol. The God you say you serve does not look kindly upon that. You must present facts not innuendo. You don't have any, therefore you are simply gossiping. Why don't you try going to court to defend yourself using the 'facts' you find on google & see how far it gets you ? Get out your concordance, look up slander in the Bible & see what God has to say. What part of illegal aliens being illegal (lawbreakers ) don't you get ? What part of Ramos, Compean, & Snipe chasing drug smugglers is so difficult for you to comprehend ? Our borders need to be defended, not in words as per homeland security, but in actual fact. Sadly, children like you don't get it. Your understanding will come when it affects you directly. Only by then it will be too late.

Amen to this brother. I agree, what part of illegal don't you get? I don't care whose servant they are, they are still illegal. They should be forced to come to this country legally like the immigrants who first disembarked on these shores. They had to go through all kinds of hardship, including (God forbid) learning the language. Why should we pay for illegal aliens to come here and make us learn their language. This is America, let them learn American just as the aforesaid first immigrants did.

Hear, hear! What more can I add? I have been so disappointed in Pres. Bush, whom I voted for twice. Nothing we say or do seems to reach him; hence, I've become empathetic with my liberal friends, who have despised him all along and I am no longer able to defend him. I pray for him to open his eyes and heart to understand this situation and to support Israel, which he also waxes & wanes on...

I agree 100% with Mrs Schafly's article. It is indeed a shameful miscarriage of justice. Unfortunately, it is only a visible symptom of a monumental threat to American sovereignty and, consequently, our freedoms. That threat is the behind-the-scenes manipulations that have been going on for years to create a "North American Union" in which we are tied to Mexico and Canada--their laws would trump ours. These honorable men, I believe, were sacrifices to appease Mexico's President and other high level politicians & persons of power. I firmly believe that Pres. Bush's working to further the "Union" is a deep betrayal to the country he is supposed to love. And, yes, I voted for him both times. And though I do pray for the Border Guards to be pardoned and receive an official apology and for the anti-American sentiments in our so-called justice system to be rectified I have my doubts based on the hidden agendas of our President, other high level federal and state politicians and the big money pwer-brokers. I fear that the lives of these Border Patrol agents and their families have been absolutely wrecked for the harmful and selfish purposes of the powerful elite.

I also agree with every word of this open letter to President Bush. This is incredibly ignorant that we prosecute our border guards and give the criminals a free pass. Our soldiers cannot fight, our police cant arrest, border guards cant do their job unless they call and get permission first? Sounds like the MacArthur & Truman debate is still on going on. Whos in charge the politicians, lawyers, & the Mexican government? Everyone, except the people that should be in charge. Somebody grow a backbone and start defending our once great United States.

I too, have been very disappointed with many things that have occured on President Bush's watch. I agree that the ultimate goal of the President and the powers that be, is for a North American Trade Union. I didn't believe it until I read the very upsetting stories of the Border Patrol agents. What could possibly be the motive behind such utterly unbelievable situations as these???!!! This makes me believe that there are agendas and secrets that aren't being exposed. What else could cause these unbelievable events? And can you tell me what the MacArthur/Truman debates are that you mentioned?

President Bush needs to hear this kind of letter, but I'm not sure that it will have much effect on him. Like you say, the policy of this administration does not seem to be concerned about the sovereignty of the United States, and not concerned about the high cost of illegal immigration, or immigration in general. Just the opposite, they want to blend the USA into a one world economic order (READ DISORDER). Thank you for your communication Phyllis. We need to keep such dialogue alive, and hopefully more and more people will react to its message. Not violently, of course, but to prepare themselves for economic, social, and political demise which will result from this administration's shoddy policies. George Cancilla

I agree totally with Ms. Schafly's letter. This president has a HIDDEN agenda re Mexico and illegals crossing it. Whatever it is, it must be exposed. I think it is because he is a globalist who wants America to have open borders. At worst, it is because he is profiting somehow by it.
