Guidepost Magazine No Longer Christian?

Guidepost Magazine No Longer Christian?

A friend of mine sent me a recent Guidepost magazine, outraged by an endorsement they were making in the November, 2006 issue. I looked over it, and I was also taken aback by their promotion of theological feminism and decided to give them a call.

I picked up the phone and called Guidepost magazine. I kept my voice calm and low and spoke to someone to make a comment. I said:

"I was under the impression that Guidepost is a Christian magazine. Is that true?"

She said, "No, it is not true. It is a spiritual magazine to reach out to people in all faiths."

I said, "Oh, ok, so that would explain why you are promoting someone who walks with the turtles to get the spirit of the turtle and who makes a shrine to the Mother-god and who is offended by patriarchal language of the Bible."

She didn't say anything.

I continued, "I am talking about your endorsement of Sue Monk Kidd and promotion of her books. That is atrocious from a Christian standpoint."

She calmly answered, "Ok," to acquiesce cordially to me as a "customer."

I said, "I have a Christian ministry, and I will be letting people know about this."

She said, "Ok," and we hung up.

The conversation lasted for about two minutes. I just wanted to let everyone know that the November 2006 issue of Guidepost is now promoting Sue Monk Kidd, and, by their own admission, the magazine is not Christian but "spiritual" to "reach people of all faiths."

It's time for us all to realize that the great apostasy which the Bible talks about is all around us. It comes in every form and through every imaginable medium. Be alert! Test every spirit to be sure whether it is of God or not. Remember, the best presented lies are embedded in the best presented truths. Satan isn't called an angel of light for nothing. Study your Bible and get to know the authentic Word of God so you will know the counterfeit when it presents itself. This is serious stuff. It's not a computer game. We have been warned. 2Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

I've had some questions about articles I've seen in recent magazines, but never realized they did claim to be "inter-faith." I just wish the true Christians there (if there are any) would no longer contribute so there would be no question about where the publications stand. Thank you for bringing the truth to light!

Sad, I used to read the magazine years ago when I was a kid and always found it inspirational. They should remember - "One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who [is] above all..." Eph. 4:5-6

Just to set the record straight, Guideposts was founded in 1945 by the Christian minister Norman Vincent Peale(author of the Power of Positive Thinking) specifically and by charter as an interfaith publication based in Judeo-Christian teachings. It's audience is overwhelmingly Christian, though not monolithically evangelical, and virtually all of its articles are written from a Bible-based Christian perspective. As for Sue Monk Kidd, she is a product of the Guideposts Writers Workshop, wife of an ordained Christian minister, and has written for the magazine since the late 1970s, though much less so in recent years.

I'm confused. Who still believes Guidepost Magazine is Christian? Norman Vincent Peale may have claimed to be a Christian but he was not. He was a Freemason. The big problem is that people are long-time church-going Christians and still believe that Peale and Guidepost are Christian. This is tragic. The shepherds have abandoned the sheep.

Although many of the stories seem to be from a Christian perspective, Guidepost Mags instructions for writing clearly states that it is inter-faith. Read the following link: http://www.guidepostsmag.com/writers_guidelines.asp Here is the first paragraph: Guideposts magazine is a monthly inspirational, interfaith, nonprofit publication written by people from all walks of life. Its articles present tested methods for developing courage, strength and positive attitudes through faith in God. Our writers express viewpoints from a variety of Protestant, Catholic and Jewish faith experiences. Unfortunately, this is not well known. That being said, I'm just as suprised by my own ignorance regarding this matter. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Darrel

Thanks for the startling news! Interesting that they would admit to it. Instead of the title," Guidepost Magazine No Longer Christain?" How about- "Guidepost Magazine No Longer Christian!!!!"
