EMNR and the Good News

EMNR and the Good News

As Evangelical Ministries to New Religions (www.emnr.org) spreads the Good News of the gospel, comprised of many sincere servants of the Lord and authentic Christian apologists, I am happy to spread the good news of their recent decision to remove articles from their web site from a group teaching that cults are “sacred tribes.”

EMNR is to be commended for this. The cults are not quite as comfortable now! (See my previous article entitled “EMNR: Keeping the Cults Comfortable” posted on the articles page of the Lighting the Way International web site at www.ltwinternational.org ). I am sure this bold move from EMNR, pertaining to the removal of these articles previously posted in affiliation with their organization, is quite a blow to the workings of Satan! This happened after my last article on EMNR was published on this site, addressing my concern about a spiritual camaraderie with any movement out to call cults “sacred tribes.”

Though I was informed they decided to remove all articles from the EMNR web site not written by current EMNR members, I am praising God for the resistance on their end to proliferate the postmodern promotion of lies about our Jesus being “sacred” in any way. I will keep readers abreast of these changes at EMNR with the prayer that more Good News will spread from EMNR members, by the power of the Holy Spirit, and other concerns brought to light in my previous article will be addressed for God’s glory as well.

A couple of the authors of the articles removed from the EMNR postings are also affiliated with the “Jesus People.” John Morehead and Jon Trott (who believe that cults are “sacred tribes”) both took the platform at Cornerstone, July, 2006, in Bushnell, IL, as teachers at the Jesus People festival. Last summer at the camp, I learned that Halloween is a big day for the “Jesus People”, as they gathered in festivity for the holiday last July!

I am writing this article on October 31, 2006, in celebration of the fact that cults will never be sacred tribes; Satan’s ways will never be God’s ways; 1 Corinthians 10:20-22 is the eternal promise from God, despite the neo-pagan celebration of “Days of the Dead” from the “Jesus People” teachers and their curious, beguiling reverence for Halloween.

Here is a link where Gretchen Passantino, a teacher from Cornerstone 2006, is featured with Hank Hanegraaff, as they aspire to give Halloween a new meaning, as if they are attempting to Christianize it!

[See: http://www.equip.org/ where it states Gretchen Passantino as Hank’s guest on Oct. 31, 2006.  (When clicking to the “more information page” it leads to http://www.equip.org/bam/index.asp, stating that it is a re-broadcast).]

Gretchen spoke on the subject of Halloween at Cornerstone, making similar points justifying this hallowed eve, and I hope to be quoting her verbatim on this and other teachings in forthcoming articles. The way the teachers from Cornerstone dressed up in the middle of the summer to laud Halloween can’t help but make one wonder about such a strange spirit at work, on the “dark side” of this debate. Aren’t Christians supposed to be more comfortable living in the unquestionable LIGHT of the Bible—in the light where death looks as black as it truly is? Since when did death and Satanism start to look “fun” and innocuous? I am certainly an old kind of Christian these days.

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness…Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and clever in their own sight!” Isaiah 5:20-21

“The Lord will go forth like a warrior…” Isaiah 42:13

Jesus said, “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who art in heaven, HALLOWED BE THY NAME’” Matthew 6:9

For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent (Isaiah 62:1),

Thank you for the links to view Hank Hanagraf's tract on Halloween. I went there expecting to read his expose of the teaching instead he agreed with it! How very sad that a man who has exposed so many deceptions has been taken in by this one. This is just confusion. Jesus Christ does not need Halloween to draw people to Him. The Catholic Church's practice of allowing people to continue to practice their pagan celebrations by trying to turn them into a "sacred" day has always been and continues to be a mistake. When we become believers there are just some things from which we must walk away and denounce.

I think you are reading a lot more into what Hank H. says about Halloween. He is trying to give ways to counteract the dark side of it and use it to win people to Christ. What is wrong with a child dressing up as their favorite Bible character and having fun with other children at churches holding parties. It is where your heart is that matters. Christians did the same thing for Christmas & Easter - Dec. 25 was not Christ's actual birthday, and Easter was for celebrating the fertility goddess Ishtar (where the name comes from) and we "took that over". Are we to stop celebrating Easter because of the name and it's meaning? No, because it is what we are celebrating that counts, not the stigma of the past it entails. We are to try and win back what Satan controls - so why not celebrate All Saints Day (All Hallows Eve)? It is really more of a diluted American holiday these days that has little occult meaning to MOST people. Dressing up in a costume doesn't make you a satanist. (Wiccans, satanists and the like are a whole different story-they do use it for their evil purposes.) But I believe it can be done righteously in the Lord's name to win souls...like a Fall Harvest Festival or something similar thru a church. We can take something "ugly" and both we and God can use it for His glory.
