Most readers of this column know that I see six worldviews vying for the hearts and minds of the whole world. At least six are “evangelistic” and seeking converts—Christianity, Islam, Secular Humanism, Marxist Humanism, Cosmic Humanism and Postmodernism.
While Islam generates great interest in some parts of the world the one worldview that is giving Christians fits is Secular Humanism.I would say that more Christians have their faith challenged or destroyed by SH than all others combined.Ruth Tucker, professor at Calvin Seminary, puts it like this:“Despite all the eulogies to Secular Humanism and scientific naturalism, modernism is not dead and postmodernism has not taken its place.Humanism is alive and well. And this philosophical creed continues to be, I would argue, the underlying reason for walking away from [the Christian] faith.”
Her usage of the term “philosophical creed” is only partly correct, however.Secular Humanism is far more than a philosophy.Paul Kurtz himself referred to it as “a philosophical, religious, and moral point of view.”
The reason Secular Humanism has made mince meat of Christians is simply because it is a competing religious worldview, not just a philosophy or cultural phenomenon.
In Nancy Pearcey and Charles Thaxton’s important book, TheSoul of Science, they notethat back in 1893 Thomas Huxley along with a group of scientists and scholars set out to destroy “the cultural dominance of Christianity.”They fully understood that they were replacing the Christian worldview with the Secular Humanist worldview.Says Pearcey and Thaxton, “They understood very well that they were replacing one religion by another for they described their goal as the establishment of the ‘church scientific.’Huxley even referred to his scientific lectures as ‘lay sermons.’”
From the time of Thomas Huxley (his nickname was “Darwin’s Bulldog”) to the present his lay sermons have been preached in our halls of academia and funded by the taxpayers of America. As far as I can tell there is no significant difference between Humanist Sermons and the curriculum of the public schools.
What brought this whole issue to the fore was Ann Coulter’s great book Godless:The Church of Liberalism and the Free Thinkers of Colorado.
Coulter leads off her book with, “Liberals [her name for Secular Humanists] love to boast that they are not ‘religious,’ which is what one would expect to hear from the state-sanctioned religion.Of course liberalism is a religion. It has its own cosmology, its own miracles, its own beliefs in the supernatural, its own churches, its own high priests, its own saints, its own total worldview, and its own explanation of the existence of the universe. In other words, liberalism contains all the attributes of what is generally known as ‘religion.’”
The Free Thinkers of Colorado have petitioned the U. S. Air Force Academy to allow them to present their Secular Humanist worldview in the Academy’s “extra-curricular ‘faith’ programs” called “Special Programs in Religious Education” or the Spires program. The AirForceAcademy, as of September 2006, has agreed to allow the Free Thinkers to participate in their “faith” programs!
According to the local press accounts the Free Thinkers released the following statement:“The United States Air Force Academy is to be congratulated for recognizing the need to expand mentoring services to cadets by including the secular as well as the religious, Jeff Lucas, a Free Thinker volunteer said.”(The Colorado Springs Gazette, Sept. 4, 2006, p. M4)
What Mr. Lucas fails to mention is his humanistic worldview is as religious as Christianity.Didn’t he publicly join the Academy’s “Religious Education” portion of its academic offerings?Certainly he must have had some inkling of what he was doing. And when he comes on campus one can bet that his car will be marked with his “religious” symbol—the fish with Darwin’s name inscribed with little feet signifying man’s evolution from the muck or “foamy, blue-green algae pond scum.”
The Air Force cadets are in for an interesting semester as they “share ideas” with leading “authors and academics.”One world-famous author missing, however, will be Antony Flew, a former Secular Humanist, who has forsaken his atheism because of “reason and science.”He just could not convince himself that the human cell was an accident of nature.Come to think about it that is difficult to believe. We’ll see how The Free Thinkers of Colorado handle that hot potato in their weekly discussion meetings!

The subject of your article is being repeated in a variety of ways, across America and worldwide. Yet, I fail to see the response from the faithful that at one time was commonplace amongst men and women of faith, specifically as with Elijah, when he challenged the prophets of Baal to measure up to his expectations of his God.
He was bold and unwavering in his faith that no other purported god could match his.
Where is that sort of faith today; what should we fear from any claims of the pagan?
Let them all raise any challenge to our God's validity for the comparison will be as striking as night and day.

Here is one that will give everyone something to dwell on. This is deep so take your time and think it over. "WHEN YOU DIE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT EXIST SOMEWHERE!" Gods creations are much too complicated for any mortal beings to comprehend and this was his purpose. You can sell your soul out to the devil for all your scientific theories that will never hold a grain of salt. What "SOMEWHERE" do you want to go to exist? All human emotions from within make up the very essence of our soul? Gods endless love for all is never ending. Its time to take theories and science and put them on the back burner and let your heart be opened by Gods Holy Spirit. IT IS YOUR ONLY CHOICE! YOU CAN'T STRADDLE THE FENCE! Former Human Secularist?

The author implies that Antony Flew is no longer a human secularist because he is not an atheist. But Flew is a Deist, not a Christian. He still ardently rejects organized religions. If Flew took Worldview Weekend's worldview quiz, he would absolutely be listed as a secular humanist (you can make up your own mind as to whether that reveals a flaw in Flew's beliefs or the quiz's descriptive power).
Flew couldn't convince himself that non-living matter could evolve to propagate itself. But he also couldn't convince himself that the Bible is inerrant, that Jesus was divine, or that there is a heaven or hell. If I were David Noebel, I wouldn't be looking to Antony Flew as exhibit A that an intellectually honest atheist will eventually have to embrace a Christian worldview. Click here to reply to this post

Consider:
The missing element in every human 'solution' is
an accurate definition of the creature.
The way we define 'human' determines our view of self,
others, relationships, institutions, life, and future. Many
problems in human experience are the result of false
and inaccurate definitions of humankind premised
in man-made religions and humanistic philosophies.
Human knowledge is a fraction of the whole universe.
The balance is a vast void of human ignorance. Human
reason cannot fully function in such a void; thus, the
intellect can rise no higher than the criteria by which it
perceives and measures values.
Humanism makes man his own standard of measure.
However, as with all measuring systems, a standard
must be greater than the value measured. Based on
preponderant ignorance and an egocentric carnal
nature, humanism demotes reason to the simpleton
task of excuse-making in behalf of the rule of appe-
tites, desires, feelings, emotions, and glands.
Because man, hobbled in an ego-centric predicament,
cannot invent criteria greater than himself, the humanist
lacks a predictive capability. Without instinct or trans-
cendent criteria, humanism cannot evaluate options with
foresight and vision for progression and survival. Lack-
ing foresight, man is blind to potential consequence and
is unwittingly committed to mediocrity, collectivism,
averages, and regression - and worse. Humanism is an
unworthy worship.
The void of human ignorance can easily be filled with
a functional faith while not-so-patiently awaiting the
foot-dragging growth of human knowledge and behav-
ior. Faith, initiated by the Creator and revealed and
validated in His Word, the Bible, brings a transcend-
ent standard to man the choice-maker. Other philo-
sophies and religions are man-made, humanism, and
thereby lack what only the Bible has:
1.Transcendent Criteria and
2.Fulfilled Prophetic Validation.
The vision of faith in God and His Word is survival
equipment for today and the future. Only the Creator,
who made us in His own image, is qualified to define
us accurately.
Human is earth's Choicemaker. Psalm 25:12 He is by
nature and nature's God a creature of Choice - and of
Criteria. Psalm 119:30,173 His unique and definitive
characteristic is, and of Right ought to be, the natural
foundation of his environments, institutions, and re-
spectful relations to his fellow-man. Thus, he is orien-
ted to a Freedom whose roots are in the Order of the
universe. Selah

Rationale unites us all. To deny this is to reject the wonder that is to be human. The introduction of this group vies to explore our world in the catholic language of logic. I encourage you to give thought and consider attending similar groups. Christians raised me and Christians surround me daily. I'd always thought love was an integral part of the belief system, and though I disagree with the dogma, caring for others is something I cherish. These talks of 'Satan' serve to dehumanize and idolize disagreements with people of different beliefs. If one wishes to label entire groups of people as demons, first understand who it is you criticize. Our country has come a long way in terms of xenophobia, yet we still deal with irrational fears and hatreds regularly. Unkind in any situation, and particularly so for those who espouse the teaching of love and kinship. I implore you to inform yourself on what it is you so openly criticize before degrading people with name-calling and the like. Click here to reply to this post

Dear 21 yr. old, you took this personal. The above person wasn't calling you or any group of people demons by saying this is Satan's hour. What that person means, is that Satan uses his old tricks of "logic" and regergitates them and lures people away from the truth with his mis-logic.
Of course God made us logical creatures so that is why Satan uses this logic to his advantage. You see, Satan, who was once called Lucifer in heaven, was the best and brightest angel. He used his free will and logic God created him with to rebell against God. Lucifer wanted all the glory and praise. Since he lost, he now tries to get it any way he can- through deception and other means.
The Bible is full of logic. Many scientists, athiests, and people from other religions apart from the Bible, have come to believe in God of the Bible through it's rationalle and logic.
God is the creator of man in His own image, thus man of logic. I implore you to seek true logic from the creative source.

I agree with the author, Atheism is a religion, it worships man instead of the Creator. If we, as Christians, believe the Holy Bible to be truth; then we believe there is a fallen angel called Satan.
Having studied religions and world history for the past 50 years, I believe Christians have failed to point out that America's founders did not consider Satanism, witchcraft and atheism to be part of the "religions" protected by America's constitution. The signers of the Declaration of Independence never meant for America's children to be taught at Godless schools by atheists. Our forefathers and mothers could not have imagined such a thing. They meant for the worship of the God of Abraham, interpreted by different congregations of people, to be free and protected. No one can show in any way they meant anything different. We have let the ACLU and other Atheist organizations rewrite America's history. Its not too late to rid America of these parasites but it is very close. Wake up Christians and Jews. Click here to reply to this post

Wake up Jews and Christians! Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are all descendant from Abraham. These are the three prominent desert monotheisms. Don't forget your heritage. Click here to reply to this post
