False Prophets and Isolationist Propaganda
I am a refugee from the modern “apostles and prophets” movement where men claimed the authority of God for their own words. The system was abusive and controlling, and it attacked the freedom of the gospel. Now, within the conservative ranks, I am witnessing the same defective usurping of God’s authority by false prophets. These self-proclaimed theological police promote isolationist propaganda and declare that certain websites are not holy enough for their words. Here is what I propose: the practice of promoting isolationist propaganda and declaring certain websites off limits for Christian writers to preach the gospel is an attack on the gospel itself—Christians must oppose the practice.
In the Old Testament God imposed food laws and ceremonial laws on His people to keep them separate from all the peoples of the world. The only way for individuals to come to God was to join themselves to God’s people by being circumcised and joining in observing these laws. With the advent of the gospel of life—the message that God sent His son to become man and die as man, shedding His blood on our behalf – this changed. This message was now to be proclaimed across all the world in the highways and the byways.Paul preached it to Jews in their synagogues and to pagans before their temples. In Acts 15 we see a specific example where the Old Testament laws that forced separation were removed so that the gospel could be proclaimed to all people. To the Greek, Paul became as Greek and preached to their philosophers on Mars Hill.To the Jew, Paul became as a Jew and shaved his head to visit the temple and proclaim the message there. In all things, except idol worship and immorality the true apostles proclaimed freedom for all who followed the message of Christ. The gospel met people where they were—but it was still the gospel.
Even at this time, however, false prophets who claimed to speak for God emerged and demanded that Christians adhere to additional rules and practice separation; all of which was an attack on the gospel. Some wanted to add new commands or wrongly apply them. In Corinth, Christians incorrectly attempted to impose these few mandates from Acts 15 on society as whole instead of within the church and Paul responded in 1 Cor 5,
“I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one.”
Paul fought for the liberty of the gospel and offered it, as part of the gospel, to Christians. Paul expected those he had taught to be in the world and share this message to the pagans and others they came in contact with. Christians who claimed that their group could be “more pure” by adding to the rules of Acts 15 were declared to be false because they demanded something that God had not mandated. These people were to be opposed and contended with as their words and actions were an attack on the gospel that Paul loved and preached.
Now, some former contributors to this website are guilty of adding commands to scripture. I have seen criticisms leveled at current columnists by columnists who used to regularly publish on this site—criticisms calling all who write here “hypocrites.”These former submitters claim that God is not pleased by the actions of those who continue to write here and they even go so far as to attempt to threaten those who do not obey their words with God’s disapproval and even His wrath. To this I say “Bunk.”This is the claim of false prophets; it is just a different flavor of the same abusive system that I left. These spiritual isolationists attempt to usurp God’s authority into their words as did those that Paul fought against in his epistles. He told his friends in Acts 20, “I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.”These pseudos, in similar fashion, are attempting to lead us after themselves.I claim that this is the action of a wolf, perhaps a well-intentioned wolf, but a wolf none the less.
No command or mandate in scripture limits me or prohibits me from sharing the gospel whenever and wherever I so desire. If you review each of my articles, the gospel message of the incarnation, the death and resurrection of Christ is clearly proclaimed.God died for us and was raised again and commanded us to preach this message to all and I am obedient and faithful to Him in proclaiming it here.Anyone who states otherwise is a sinning pseudo and needs to repent and embrace the authority of scripture. The Reformation and Sola Scriptura means that these people do not speak for God any more than one of the modern false prophets or emergent church leaders that they claim to oppose.
I oppose this “holier-than-thou” effort to censor and control and I declare that it to be an attack on the gospel. These spiritual isolationists have no authority or power to limit my preaching the gospel.I have posted on many “offensive” sites and contended for the message that God died to give us on infidels.org and skeptics.org.How dare someone claiming to be Christian call me a hypocrite simply because I don’t preach the gospel on the websites that they declare “clean” and “worthy.”Luther and the reformation left all Christians a legacy battling the popes who claimed that they spoke for God.I ask those of this site to also oppose the new mini-popes that would seek to oppose the preaching of the gospel here.

With all that's going on with the seeker-sensitive movement, and the false theology that abounds today I am completely grieved over this division that has occurred from this website. I am in complete agreement with the author. It's a pity that those isolationists are allowing satan to divide the Body of Christ at a time when we need to stand against the false heresies of today! Unfortunately, it's a perfect ploy of satan and he's laughing all the way to the fiery pit of Hell. Click here to reply to this post

it is very sad and heartbreaking to see this valubale ministry falling as prey to our mutual enemy. as another responder stated, we have not seen anyone on this website NOT defend the gospel message... you all were on the same page. so, who is it that has caused division?
pride, the original sin, is working on both sides. personally offenses have not been dealt with, and are becoming public. meanwhile, we are all forgetting to proclaim the fact that God IS in control, and He WILL have the victory in the end (with or without us). hallelujah!
we are taking our eyes off of that fact, and looking around at the weaknesses of others. if we succumb to the tricks of the enemy, we will become ineffective in our personal ministry and usefulness to God, but, He (Jesus Christ) will STILL be victorious, with or without us! amen.
perhaps we all need to consider that our use of the internet, and the writing of books can quickly lead to pride (i am speaking for myself as well) because we know that our 'voice' is being heard around the world. God usually works in the biggest ways in the smallest of circumstances. we must be careful not to be building a 'tower of "babble"'...which the Lord will divide, for HIS glory to be made known. THE Word is all that matters. i know i need to repent of the 'excessive devotion to books' (and reading on the internet), which is wearying to the body, and i need to fear God and keep His commandments (eccl. 12:12-13). Let us all ask God to create within us clean and pure hearts, that seek to humbly serve Him by preaching the gospel faithfully wherever the Lord will lead us. if we stick to THE job that God has appointed us to do, and keep our eyes focused on HIM, the joy of our salvation will be restored (instead of the anger we feel when we see all that is 'wrong'). only when the joy of our salvation is restored, and the focus of our hearts returns to HIM, will we be effective ministers of truth (and THE light WILL expose the darkness). again, i am speaking for myself as well. let us not be ashamed at His (soon, i hope) appearing... but faithfully doing our humble work, so that we can hear, "well done, good and faithful servant." Thank you, Mr. Jentoff, for a seemingly impartial and non-judgmental analysis of the criticism that has been leveled against this web site.
I think your comments nicely parallel the events of Acts 15. There were those religious teachers who wished to impos strict observance of Jewish law, even upon Gentile converts to Christianity. Other Church leaders disagreed, so they came up with a peaceful compromise that satisfied both camps--an example of the Christian unity that one of the feedback comments mentioned.
However, later in the chapter, we see a sharp disagreement between Barnabas and Paul, resulting in their parting company and going their separate ways--an example of God's patience in working unity in us in a way that we are able to accept. They did, eventually, reconcile their differences, after all, and their brotherly unity was restored.
Whether those who harshly criticize this web site ever reconcile their differences or not, the spirit behind your comments is kind and conducive to restoration. I appreciate your Christian witness. Click here to reply to this post

Whatever communications this author received from whoever may be offending him did not also go to the readership (at least not to me). As result, this specific, public condemnation appears to be out of place. Why post one side of a dispute when we don't even know what the accusation is. Besides, it looks petty. Whoever said what, rise above it and forget about it. I think most of us readers have. Click here to reply to this post

The author wished to bring to the light the concepts themselves and named no names to invite those who he considers isolationist into a public debate concerning their ideas and claims. An initial position needed to be drafted, and I have done so. The others may respond if they wish or have arguments strong enough to bear the light of public debate. Click here to reply to this post

I read your article with interest. I hope this website does not engage in a continual "battle" against the "previous writers". If you have done the right thing, then let it be and let God defend your actions.
Also, one thing that I think you probably did not mean the way it came out. Even in the Old Testament, the Israelites were rebuked for not sharing God with others. That was their job even way back when. That part did not change when Jesus came, it was just emphasized to a greater extent after he rose again. Click here to reply to this post

The article by K.Jentoft was interesting. Unfortunately it shows the lack of Unity in Christ among Christians. While other secular and political ideologies are trying to bury Christianity in the ash bin of history Christian Leaders are fighting among themselves. Are we of the "SAME SPIRIT" and lead by the Holy Spirit or are we being led by Ego-centric men predisposed to self agrandizement.
I would challenge any minister who inferred I was going to HELL if I did not follow his theology.
I enjoy Christian Worldview and the articles presented regardless of the authors spin. Click here to reply to this post

"Are we of the "SAME SPIRIT" and lead by the Holy Spirit or are we being led by Ego-centric men predisposed to self agrandizement. I would challenge any minister who inferred I was going to HELL if I did not follow his theology." Paul explicitly warns the leaders of Ephesus that men will arise from within the church and attempt to lead people after them. John states the "they went out from us" as they led people away from the truth and liberty of the gospel. Concerning HELL, I can confidently state that if you do not follow the theology of scripture and repent and believe in the work that Jesus Christ accomplished on the Cross to offer you the forgiveness of sins - you will certainly go to HELL. This is not "my" theology but the revelation of God given to us through His Son and written in the scripture. If I add to or take from the gospel God has revealed to us once for all in the scriptures, then your comment is certainly true. My own words and my own theology, unsupported by scripture, have no authority to threaten to cast anybody into HELL. Click here to reply to this post

I want to emphasize that I am not meaning to imply that my article applies to all former writers. All columnists have liberty to either continue to write for Worldview or to leave if they wish. I do not wish to have my article used to accuse the innocent columnist who exercised their God-given liberty and left on their own for their own reasons.
Unless you are aware of specific facts to the contrary, we need to give people the benefit of the doubt regarding their choices. My article was targeted at the few who are making this an issue of imposing their conscience upon others and expecting these people to heed their words. Click here to reply to this post

I agree and disagree with your article. First I totally agree that you can preach wherever you want. The gospel is for ALL, and should be heard throughout the world. If we tried only to preach repentace and savation to the clean and those we deem worthy, we would be missing out on so many of those Christ was here to reach. But the purpose of associating with those outside the Church was solely for witnessing purposes. Not to build RELATIONSHIPS in hopes that WE would save them by taking our time and telling them everything they want to hear so as not to offend them. 2 Cor 6:14-18, (and this does not just mean marriage). Would someone kindly show me where that point is made. And even when Paul preached on Mars Hill, most scoffed at him and said, let us here you on this again. Paul left.
Of course so many of us today, just stand around and put up with the scoffing. We try to lie to them with the gospel by telling them if they will fill some little hole in their heart with the love from Jesus, they will have a life full of abundent blessing and health and wealth and every other false thing I hear preached. The sad thing is, your all striving to lead people to Christ, but without the unity. Why is it, that Christ prayed so many times that we would be one and it is His one prayer that through my eyes remains to be seen.
We are truly in the days that even Jude wrote about. The emerging, purpose driven church is leading the way to apostosy. The Church is not dicerning anymore. We just accept everything as the gospel truth. We as brothers and sisters should be exposing these false witnesses and calling all to repentace. But they will know us by our love for each other, not our arguing. Click here to reply to this post
